Title: long way round
Post by: Thor S Magic Bathtub on June 10, 2006, 08:22:03 PM
I just watched the most awesomest show ever. Long Way Round with Ewan McGregor and some other guy going around the world on the back of BMW adventure bikes. Totally awesome. They start in London, go east through Russia, Mongolia, Alaska, Canada, USA, (and some other countries that I can't spell) end in New York... took them like 115 days.
Rent it or buy it, it freakin rocks. It's like 7 seperate hour long episodes and I watched all of them in less than 24 hours!

That is a very cool show.  And someone told me that the Canadian version of the DVD has more episodes then the US version.

Yeah, there is an extended version, I think 10 episodes long that's not available in the US yet, but will be later on...

Im up for it hehehe. Would you do it on adventure bikes or just stick to going round the world on countries with good roads.

I loved the episodes it was amazing. But they had alot of support with crew and vehichles with them every step of the way. I would love to have a go though.

ps the bikes were BMW GS's :)

To me Long Way Round was one of the most amazing series, I could have probably watched the entire trip's footage and not be bored ...

Cal, that sounds like a good start to me. How many days do you plan to off do to something like that... You never mentioned but assumed it's on a GS? I am envious that you get to explore such diverse cultures ... and on a motorcycle, not just any but a GS500 ?! .

That show is why McGregor is one of my favorite actors.  He is sort of a throwback.  He has got some pipes too.  For a biker, that guy can sing.

groff22, yup on the GS500E ('03) A couple of people have speculated if the bike is up to it but I think she will come through OK. A week or so ago I was talking to a huge German lady who knew her way to the pie shop and she had come to UK from the eastern part of Germany, near Dresden somewhere on a late 90's GS. The guy with her riding a BMW said he was envious of the fuel economy shown by the GS. :thumb:

Is the LONG version this one:  Long Way Round Special Edition (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000CFWFYW/qid=1150238235/sr=1-2/ref=sr_1_2/104-2916594-2974308?s=dvd&v=glance&n=130) 3 Disc Set?

It's still only 10 episodes...

Well that's 3 more episodes than 7  ;). I don't think ther link you gave is the extended version. Go to amazon.ca I heard they have the extended in Canada.

http://www.amazon.ca/exec/obidos/ASIN/B000CFWFYW/qid=1150246323/sr=8-1/ref=sr_8_xs_ap_i1_xgl/701-7324800-6634713

Nevermind, I did it for you. I think the US is the only country in the galaxy that it isn't released in yet. People are having trouble with the discs in in the US though, so I'm gonna wait until it's officialy released to make sure it'll work on my DVD player.
