Title: Why is the pack more fun?
Post by: RVertigo on June 12, 2006, 01:26:03 PM
I went riding with two buddies over the weekend...  I had the wife on the back for some of it...

We all went out to dinner afterwards and I was talking to the wife about the ride.  She said, "It's a lot more fun to ride in a group like we were."  And, while I totally agree, I was trying to figure out why...

I think it's a primal urge to be in a pack and "run with the wolves."

So...  WHY do you think group rides are more fun?

Because its less "pointless" I have a hard time just riding around for no reason by myself I get bored...but add in AJ  :thumb: or some of the other people I ride with, its alot more fun.

I don't think it's pointless to ride by myself...  Last night I commited bug genocide for about 3 hours...  I went up lots of roads I never would have checked if I was with other people...

Most of them sucked, but I still had fun.  :dunno_white:

It's just MORE fun with a pack.  :icon_mrgreen:

The comraderie.

It's just like riding in the rain.  You're wet and you're miserable*, but if you're in a group, you're ALL wet and miserable, and that makes it that more FUN!

*If you don't have a proper rainsuit, gloves and boots.

Even more fun when you have Chatterboxes!  My girlfriend and I have really enjoyed being able to chit chat as we ride.  Also rode with another friend this weekend who was giving my 675 a test ride.  It was fun to hear his reactions to the bike.  I definitely recommend the system.  And everyone can be on the party line!!!

You let your friend ride that? You are a brave man and no doubt have titanium nuts.

The comraderie.

I think scratch hit the nail on the head.  :thumb:

However, I think it can go either way depending on the group. I've ridden with a group that was just insane and actually made the ride almost miserable because they were either riding too fast, doing stupid things, etc. The best group rides were the ones where everyone looks out for one another, and you can all stop and BS a little, stuff like that.

I'd like to add that the best people I've ever ridden with are the ones I've met from the Gstwin site.  :thumb:

I totally want head-sets... But, I'm too cheap!  :icon_rolleyes:

My wife and I were using the tap method of caveman communication....  Too bad we didn't discuss a tap for "Never Mind."

It's fun visually.........if there are riders in front of you, you can enjoy the grace and motion as they carve through the curves.
It's fun aurally..........if there are bikes in front, the music of their pipes as they rise and fall through their rev range.
The sharing of a common enjoyed pastime.
The fellowship  of (hopefully) like-minded riders.
The beauty of all that wonderful hardware, moving gracefully as a motorized "ballet". Twins, fours, V's, in-lines, stock pipes, tuned exhausts, clip-ons, rearsets, colorful riding gear, bikes heeled over in g-loaded compression, exhaust fumes, ......god, isn't it wonderful!? :thumb:

What IS fun alone? I suppose jerkin' your gerkin is fun alone, but only because it's a replacement for a much greater activity that includes one or more sweet babes  ;)

It's interesting how 7 thru 10 point are the same size, and 11 & 12 point are the same size.  :dunno_white:

Not with mine. Firefox is good like that? I dunno.

As for the group riding, I dunno. Comraderie is definitely part of it. Maybe it's the comfort in knowing that if you get pulled over, your chances of getting a ticket are reduced depending on how many people are with you!

I honestly prefer to ride alone most of the time.

I always was the kid who sat at the empty table alone so PbbHHhhhttttt.....

Though I will say that sometimes it's nice.

I had one of the best rides of my life last night by myself.  Went and did some twisties.
But I think I really enjoyed it so much because of the progression.  I really think I figured some things out.
Everytime I ride, I want to get a little bit better.  It may be only one corner out of 100 that I hit perfect, but that is progression.  At some point, progression gets to be a lot more fun if somebody is there to see it, however.

It's more fun because you can race and stunt each other.   :icon_mrgreen:

By any chance does your gear include flip flops and a wife beater?
