Title: NINJA 600
Post by: TadMC on June 12, 2006, 07:58:15 PM
hey guys I saw a ninja 600 for about 600 bucks think is, its in pieces, fully functional, and just need to be lubed and put back together(and probably new tires and chains)

The thing is, when did kawasaki start making the ninja fuel injected, cuz this one is a carborated, air cooled bike.  so what do you guys think

BTW This is for my brother in law

Every Ninja, barring the new Ninja 650 twin, are 4 cylinder bikes. If it's air cooled, it's prolly a late 80s or early 90s Ninja.

All Ninja 600's are I4's.  And I don't think there was every an oil cooled ninja...there was certainlly never an air cooled one.  I'm pretty sure they're all water cooled.

And there's been 2 cylinder ninjas for nearly two decades.

What Ninjas were twins?

Oh and there was a GPX250 Ninja in 1989...it was a V-Twin.

EX500 and EX250.

Those were only designated "Ninjas" fairly recently, I thought. They retained the EX classification until what, 2003?

GPX was a Ninja?

The GPX was an identicle bike elsewhere...I'm not too sure about the V-Twin thing, though...I didn't get that at a very good source.

The early EX's were ninja's, too...just not popular.

You need to ask, WHY is it in bits? Was it in a crash? How damaged did it get? Was it written off by an insurance company?

600 bucks isnt exactly a great deal for a bike thats in peices. especially an old ninja from the 80's. And thats American dollars to. I'd offer him $100. tops.

its in pieces, fully functional

If it's in pieces, it's most certainly not fully functional.  I might be more generous than Chris_B and go $200, but not much more than that.

When you put it together and it doesn't work, what's he gonna say?  "Well you screwed up putting it together.  It was working fine when I took it apart."  Suuuuure.

It had a bent valve rod and the original owner sold it cuz he couldnt pay to get it fixed sooo,  they sold it and the guy fixed the bent rod but never put he seat, tail, gas tank, fairing, and the chain(i think) back on

Sounds like you should beat them up on the price but hell... even if needs put together and you only have to put a couple hundred more into it... you'll still have an old school ninja for under a grand...

The ninjas were all the bikes beginning wid ZXR, They started at 250cc, then 400 then 600 then maybe a very old 750? before they gave up on them then the 1k. All were watercooled i believe.
