Pop quiz hotshots, has anyone installed a GPZ 600 (1985 - 1989) rear shock on their GS. It looks similar & has the same number as a GSXf 1100 shock, first 4 numbers any way.
I undestand there will some fidling around to get it up & working, but the shock is a brand new koni & if it will basically fit, it'll be worth getting.
BTW I have searched, but came up with not much info.
Cheers :thumb:
they look idendical to the katana shock, get the guy to measure the bottom and top widths. plus the over all shock lenth from center to center of the holes, then you'll know.
I've emailed the seller to get the width of the clevis & eye, the length is 305mm (12 inches), so thats not a problem.
Would anyone have the width of the GS clevis & eye handy, cause it will the weekend before I can get to the bike to measure ( I really hate winter, leave for work as the suns rising & get home in the dark  )
ok at the top the measurement is 26mm no wider than 27mm
at the bottom it must be atleast 25mm 1"
i hope that helps. good luck :thumb:
Thanks for that.
Ok I decided to take a chance and got the kwaka shock. The run down is this, the shock is a brand new koni shock with progressive rate spring & adjustable preload & rebound for a GPZ 600 for $170 AUD delivered.
After getting the shock in my hot little hands & the GS one out this is what I found.
The GPZ shock is 12.5mm longer eye to eye.
The GPZ shock is 80mm total diameter.
The GPZ clevis is 40mm wide.
The GPZ eye holes are 12mm diameter, instead of 10mm.
After a bit of work the shock should fit in, so it looks like another option for rear shocks.
I will post photos once I take some. :thumb:
all seems do able, the 40mm clevis seem a bit much though, (i gather your talking about the bit at the top with the ball inside it?) that might be your down fall. not the fact that you have to cut it, its just that you won't be able to use the ball in side it...mmm unless you get a new peice weilded in to hold it, i think that'll be the best idea, the 12mm bolts are no worries there is more than enough meat on the bottom fixing to enlarge the holes. keep us updated with the ozzy bodging :thumb: :icon_mrgreen:

Nah the bit down the bottom. So two 4 - 5 mm spacers should get it in. As for the rest of it, anything will fit with big enough hammer :thumb:
sweet as, that'll be miles better than the shaZam! gs shock, do you guys have trademe or ebay or something like that in oz??
we got ebay but no trademe - trademe is NZ only me thinks... :icon_mrgreen:
