Since the crash my coworker caused it has been going downhill.
First the owner & son made a directive saying that only the Network Admin can touch the servers (which I thought was reactionary and punishing me for the dumb mistake of another).
Yesterday they brought in the 3 Bobs (office space reference) to look at our network. I suspected it was the Network Admin's ass they were after (after all he ignored my warnings that we weren't backing up critical systems), but as it turns out the company is looking into a third party IT support company. After I was told how great it would be, I said to my boss that it sounded like they wanted to get rid of us. His reply was perplexing..."Do you think I am trying to get rid of you, or the owner?" When I said the owner, I got silence in return.
So one big fat screw up by somebody else and they want to farm out the IT help to another company. What a crock of poop. I hate the corporate world. I detest it.
Best part: On Wednesday (my day off BTW) I get to sit down with the three Bobs and hear "What exactly do you do here at Innatek." My reply will be "I'm a people person dammit! What the hell is wrong with you people!" Actually I seriously plan on walking in and saying "Bob, Bob, How's it going." We'll see if they get it.
Interchode.
thats shitty man. Hopefully they don't go ahead and eliminate the positions in favor for third party IT support. Sometimes I am glad that i work for the State, stuff like that terrifies me. Good luck man, everything will turn out alright.
That sucks. I saw it happen in another department at a .edu i worked at. 2 months later after they relized it took a week to get a SERVER even looked at they started calling the old admins.
Either way I'd get your resume going and get it out to everyone you know.
that sucks. be honest though about how you think the situation could have been different.
that does suck, but look at it as an opportunity to move on to bigger and better things... personally, I see every job just as a chance to increase my networking and further beef up my resume to make me more appealling for the next job... polish up that resume and start looking for the next thing :thumb:
Sell your companies ass on the line to them. Tell them they don't wana get involved and that you recommend that they recommend to the greater powers a little reshuffling where you come out on top and can stop all the asswhipes cocking things up for you.

 You Britt's kill me. I'm sure if I use the words "cocking it up" I would be charged with sexual harassment
Today is the conference call with the two Bob's.
good luck John :thumb:
The title for this thread sounds like something Sanka (the push cart driver from Cool Runnings) would say.
All kidding aside ... best of luck today, John.
Damn it feels good to be a gangsta...
It's not uncommon for the outside company to hire people from inside as consultants... I've seen it before... higher pay less benefits..
Hope things went well with the Bobs! :thumb:
I have to roll my eyes when companies think they are going to great wonders by "outsourcing". Yes, some things should be outsourced. Trash removal, for instance.
But you said yourself that the server data is mission critical. Is the company REALLY stupid enough to entrust their critical data to an outsourced company? A more intelligent CEO wouldn't think the solution is to outsource, they would think the solution is MORE TRAINING. You and your little freeware backup tool weilding buddy should be sent to a week of training or something. The company needs to develop the skills and abilities of the in-house employees without resorting to outsourced.
I've worked for outsourced companies, and let me tell you: They don't give a rat's ass about the livlihood of your business, they are just there to get their check.
If anything is outsourced in IT, I could see it maybe being tech support or hardware repairs, running cables, something like that - MAYBE. But anything mission critical should be in house. :thumb:
Yeah corporate bummer, the bigger the firm the worse it gets, thankfully i retired from a multi-national last Christmas. G'luck John, I'm sure you will be OK.
By the way "chicken-up" for a mistake is the sort of expression that gets used in kids T.V. programs here, funny old world.
