i'm a noob....i'll be taking the MSF course in august (next available class).....but i wanna learn about bikes, specifically the gs500f. i'm 90% convince that this is the bike i'll get after my license. anyone in the central NJ area who wouldn't mind showing their bike to me? perhaps give me a few pointers on what to look for when purchasing a bike, etc.
thanks
-raj
I think you should check out and buy Amanda's bike, she is in central jersey:

i'm in north brunswick......i just moved to NJ so i'm not too familiar w/the area just yet. i travel up and down rt. 1 everyday for work (i work in princeton). my main goal is to see the bike in person and talk to the owner about pros/cons about the gs500f. maybe get to know what to look for in a used bike. if you're willing, i'd really appreciate checking your bike out. i'm not sure how quickly you want to sell your bike. i was gonna look for bikes when i got closer to my MSF course (in august).
thanks,
raj

thank you? :flipoff: LOL
no no no, it truely is a complement. You see, the tard farm just got so heated last night. It really is nice to see manners.
BTW, i came in very polite as well, now im a jerk!
Well I'm right off Rt 1 so you are in good shape there. It's crappy out today, but maybe some time next week.
you dont want to buy Amanda's bike... actually Amanda doesn't want to sell her bike, she's just confused and thinks she does :icon_lol:
I live in North Jersey so I could help out. I don't live as close to you as Amanda does, but it's not that far. What you might want to do is hop in your car and stop by the NE meet (http://gstwins.com/gsboard/index.php?topic=24531.0) Friday or Saturday night. You'll get to see a bunch of GS's and get a lot more info then just talking to Amanda or I.
^^^ He makes a really good point. :thumb:
Come to the NE meet Friday (23rd) or Saturday (24th) night and you will meet a bunch of GS500 riders with a bunch of GS500's of all types (naked, faired, stock, modded, etc). And we're all at different levels, from noob to experienced. We're even cooking out and BSing, and you are 110% welcome to come hang out and check out the bikes and we're likely to tell you more about the GS500 than you ever want to know :icon_razz:
Welcome, dabenz7898! I'm glad to see that you're being well cared for here! :thumb:
thanks for the wonderful welcome......this is by far the best response i've ever received on any forum.
amanda......i'll definitely setup some time to check out your bike when the weather's better.
i'll see what i can do for the NE meet, but i doubt i can commit with such a short notice. if there are any local meets, i'll be sure to stop by.
thanks.
That's fine...BUT I'm warning you now... When you sit there and read our stories and see how much fun we had after we get back, you will be kicking yourself for not coming (for at least one day). Don't say I didn't warn ya! :icon_razz:
And no prob on setting up a day and time. We'll see what works.
i promised myself that i would start studying for the GMAT on saturday......but then again i've been saying that for the last 6 months ;) so who knows...
#1. You do NOT study in the summer.
Well maybe you could just study by the campfire. HAHA yeah right!
you do if you have the lure of big $$$$ and the only thing stopping you is a grad degree :thumb:
dabenz7898 - pffffftt. I don't think missing one night of studying is going to diminish your future. My girl is going to graduate school in the fall, and we find plenty of time to horseass around. So stop being all intellectual and come hang out with us. 8)
Also - think of the welcome you got here. Take a look around the board. A lot of people say that one of the best things about the GS500 is that community that supports it. I'd have to agree. :thumb:

let me know what are good days/times for you. i'd love to come check out the bike and maybe sit on it to get a feel for it. i went to east cost suzuki/kawasaki and they wouldn't let me sit on their bikes on the showroom floor
there's a grt bike shop (I MEAN GREAT!) in Malapan, NJ named Extreme Machines on Route 33. They'll let u sit on the bike. I bought my 05 there. I live in Monroe which is slightly farther.

Exept the busa, they wouldnt let me, dont know why, I sat on a gsxr750 20th anniversery edition. They arent that far apart in price

They feel the same. The only difference between them is different body work, pretty much. They have the exact same bars, the same frame, the same engine, the same foot pegs, the same seat height, etc...
The new ones just weigh more and look different.
how much more weight are we talking about

Dry weight on the pre-'04 models is 372lbs, I think. '04 model is 392lbs.
Damn I know plastic dont weight that much

Correction in weights made.
The extra weight is due to not only the plastics (which are surprisingly heavy for being sheets of plastic) but the headlight setup weighs a lot more than the naked version. The upper fairing weighs a lot, too. Then there's the fairing stay bracket, as well as all the hardware to add the fairings. It adds up.

That's weird. My boyfriend bought his bike there, and the short little asian lady let me, even encouraged me, to sit on bikes to see what I could reach the ground on. How weird?! But I second the extreme machines suggestion. It's a good place.
There is a dealer around here where they won't let you sit on the bikes. Fat chance I'd buy a bike from them. The dealer I bought my bike from let people sit on the bikes, but not test ride them to my knowledge. Hell, if I had not sat on the GS I might not have chosen it. Of the bikes I sat on, the GS felt the best to me and was a big reason I bought it. Otherwise, I was seriously thinking about the Katana 600...boy did I make the right choice :thumb:
hey im kinda new on here also actualy its my first post, i live right off major rd by the mcdonalds and burgerking. i got the bike at east coast good price but their service sucks ass. xtreme machine is a really good place
-vince
coolness....i live not too far from you.....maybe we can ride sometime (once i have my license and bike)
east coast service is bad (won't let me sit on bike).....but i'll still check 'em out for a good deal. i tried extreme machine on a monday and found out the hard way that they are closed on mondays.
on a high note, i take the MSF course in exactly one month :icon_mrgreen:

what time and where? i'll try to come by depending on work.
I work in the city so I should be home by 7:00. Most likely 8:00 pm on Rte 33 in Freehold. I plan to meet up w/ Suzuki10 (Amanda). PM Amanda for the actual location (address).
night cruz? where do u guys meet up?
-vince
if weather permits, Wayne comes to me (in Monroe Twp) and then we ride to Freehold where we met up with Amanda. Probably where Rita's Ice Cream is at - can't miss it, it's right on the corner of 33 where the bike show starts.
Will you be there?
i would like to but im not too sure if i can..btw i kno exactly which ritas you are talkin about, i go to school at Monmouth and i take that road all the time
-vince
ok - see what you can do. We'll be there (if it's not raining).
