Title: Running away from cop....
Post by: bbq on June 14, 2006, 10:23:11 AM
I heard about it all the times, but finally saw it in person yesterday.....

I was driving in my cage on a residential road yesterday. As usual I checked my mirror every few seconds, then all of a sudden out of nowhere a bike was right behind my rear window. I was going to pull to the right to let him pass me, but before I managed to move the steering wheel he was already passing me on the RIGHT on the paved shoulder!  :o The guy, wearing only t-shirt and jean, then proceed to squeeze in between the cars stopped at the intersection and ran the red light (Lane splitting is a big  :nono: :nono: in where I live).

I still didn't realize what was going on until seconds later I heard the siren and a cop car sped by. Fortunately the guy was dumb enough to trap himself by turning into a street mall where there is only one exit.  :cookoo:

To me that is a lot of risks in order to save some money on a ticket. If I turned my wheel a bit faster, or if there were enough gravel on the shoulder, or if a car or someone happened to be at the intersection, he would be dead by now. Too bad everyone else at the scene will now probably think that's how everyone ride their bike.......

Don't kid yourself.  People don't run from the cops to avoid paying tickets.  They do it for the rush of running, or because they have much bigger legal issues than a few bucks going to the state or to insurance premiums (like outstanding warrants).

This poster has it right. People who run are usually avoiding the cops for a much bigger reason than a ticket. These are the people I end up defending later.

Naughty! i hope you have learned from your ways now.

The person who owned the GS i went to look at had a 21 year old son who had an r1 with like 8K spent on trick bits / quickshifters and all sorts and he regularly went out without a numberplate. . . Him and his friend used to evade police all the time. What an idiot.

Another Example of why you shouldn't run... (http://sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2006/06/11/MNGKTJCJOA3.DTL)

 You would have to be a fast runner. Not like whose wussies on COPS that get tangled up on the fence they jump over.

I've evaded before...but never really ran.  Just made a turn, stopped and waited...cop flew by the turn...I just didn't worry about it.

I'd quite possibly do that, but never run.  I mean, what are they going to do, arrest you for stopping?

Well, that, and the GS is slower than just about every police car out there.

Seriously though, a ticket (or even an arrest warrant) isn't worth dying.

But you don't see the red lights if you don't look back.

What if you are going so much faster than the cop that it doppler-shifts his lights into the infra-red... i guess they can't hold you at fault then.. right?

This is why I ride everywhere at 160+ mph.  Red light only travels 153mph.

I usually try to keep it around 750mph... that way, if they turn on their siren... I can say: "Didn't hear it, I was going faster than the speed of sound!"  :icon_lol:

Ahahaha!

I went by one on my local twisty at 80mph or so :icon_twisted: (speed limit 35) and after the next corner I stopped dead and waited, figured if I was stopped already he might not shoot me on sight.  :2guns:

I waited, and waited and waited. He never came, apparently he thought it was no use to try, or was asleep.

Decided to come down the back way though.
