My 2003 Gs is making a knocking noise only when I start the engine warm.
If I let the engine cool down for 5 to 10 minutes after a good ride , it will start knocking for about 15 to 30 seconds after I started it up. It is a knock noise and not a clicking noise.
I was wondering if it could be the play in the cam shaft or if I had a possible oil pressure problem because the noise goes away when the engine is reved up..
Louis
Welcome!
Both. Check your oil level first, after a 15 minute ride. Let it cool, at least, 30 minutes; that dipstick is hot! If the oil level is okay, we can rule that out.
Did it just start making the knock?
Yes, I bought the bike with 15000km and I got 16300km right now and started hearing this noise last week.
Oil level is checked regularely and I run the bike with Motul semi synthetic.
I tought it might have been the synchro of the carburator that could create a rougher iddle resulting in a lower end knock when hot but even after a professional carb synchro the bike is still knocking a little on hot start up. I have plenty of power limited oil consumption and no abnormal noises when the engine is running hot or cold.Only that little knock knock noise that last for about 10 seconds when I start the bike hot after it sat for 5 to 10 minutes..
THANK'S

i get it as well, sounds like some one nocking on the door a few time, but only afer puting into gear. i belive it is valve's clearence. i haven't checked mine yet, how ever the kit is on the way so this will be done soon.
i have 13500 miles on the 04 now.
From what i have herd this is camshaft end play its common on all gs's
To my knowledge its nothing to worrie about (although i hate the sound of it)
