Well, I looked and looked and looked at all the related schematics on bike bandit, and pretty much the only difference I could see between a 2000 and a 2001 at the throttle grip was the additional cable. Even the grips looked the same. I was wondering if anyone with a 2001+ (my new carbs are 05's, still the same as 01+?) would take some picture of their throttle assembly. I'm looking for pics of the grip where the cables attach, the dual cable routing through the frame, and pics of how it's hooked up at the carbs. I'd really appreciate it! Today I'm going to pick me up some jets for it, might as well jet it before I install it...
the 04 has a sensor on the end that the earlyer models do NOT have.
Which end? Do you know of a part number? If it's only another $50 or so in parts, I'll do it. It'll be nice to have like-new carbs.
'89- 2000 only have pilot and main jets.
'01+ adds a mid jet and a push/pull dual cable set up.
'04+ adds a throttle position sensor.

I've got 05 carbs, is the TPS necessary? If so, can I get that part from bike bandit? Where's the TPS located? It might be attached to the new carbs... I haven't even opened the box yet... I did my brake lines today, and tomorrow I'm going to attempt to do a spring swap, so the carbs aren't my highest priority, and I don't want to go digging in until I know I have all the parts I'll need...

well, if I don't absolutely need the TPS and second cable for it to work, then I wo't bother with them. I just want to find out before I do the work...
use the push/pull set up....2 cable
it is a positive shutting of the butterflies when you let off the throttle
the TPS is wired into the late model CDI....ignore it
why would you need a tps on a carbed bike?

I was wondering the same thing.

same reason for the mid circuit....emission control

Cool. Looks like all I'll need then is a few pieces around the throttle grip. I guess I'll check out some nearby junkyards for parts. Anybody know a good junkyard in Socal?

.
The older carbs from the 90's are bigger in diameter at the airbox end so you will need smaller rubber boots for an 05.
There a few mm smaller so when you tighten up the clamps if they will tighten that much you could easy be sucking in some air, i have some on my bench and an old air box from a 93, trust me the 05 are very loose in them and i'm about to put the 05 carbs on mine and have brought 05 rubber boots, which fit nice and tight.
The o/d of 05 carbs are 58 mm round air box end on the 90's carbs there not even round from side to side they are 58mm, from top to bottom they are 63 mm.
Engine side they are the same.

I think you'll even find your stock grip works with dual cables, though i'm sure you'll at least have to get the piece the cables thread into. However, if it were me, I'd go to the 1/5th turn throttle, that's one of the "upgrades" I've been happiest about.
There's also the bracket over the carbs that the cables screw into- not sure how that works on the earlier models, or if the later bracket will just bolt in or not.
I still say you should be able to run them on one cable, at least until you have time to complete the change.
I want to get everything together to do it all at once... What's a 1/5th turn throttle? What part does it involve?
tf1075 - you know the part number for those boots you are talking about? WOuld it require replacing the whole airbox? Heck... Wouldn't I be better off just going with a lunchbox?

I'm not sure on the part # i'll try find out, you may get away with just some slightly smaller clamps so that they tighten up around the 05 carbs, because you'll see that the old clamps are easy to be as tight as poss on the old style carbs.
