just bought this gs for £200. was talking to a neighbour and she said her dads friend passed away a couple of weeks ago and that he had a bike in his garage which his wife wanted to sell so that there was space in it so her son could park his car in there as he was staying for a while to look after her. so i went round to have a look and there it was, a mint 1989 gs. i asked her how much and she said £200 so i bought it there and then.
heres a pic of it. (http://i72.photobucket.com/albums/i181/mbbikes2005/new2.jpg)
:o Wow! What a find !!!
Very sweet... How many miles on it looks like 15 :icon_mrgreen: ? Did it start?
theres 15000 miles on it. it started first go without the choke on. there i a full suzuki service history on it and only that one owner from new.
Looks just the same as your other pics? Same bike?
no not same bike i will take a pic of other side tomorrow and post it. you can see the frame is diff as there is no access hole in the frame to unbolt the rear shock. head light also diff and my other one looks nothing like that now as you will see if you look at the post (gs exhaust).
Nice buy! :thumb:
Is it operational? I suggest you do a thorough inspection per the Clymer's manual before you stray too far from home. ;)
checked bike as soon as i got it home, everything is like new. ive built about 30 bikes from bare frames so no what to check and it was all fine. had it sitting at about 100mph for about 5 miles and when i slowed down it just sat perfect at tickover with no strange noises. im gona keep this one standard and totaly mod the one that i have posted in (gs exhaust topic) so that people can see what you can do with a gs as there are only a couple of them in n.ireland and the bikers over here say they are just boring dull bikes and im gona prove the wrong. there is a guy over here that used to build turbos for the cb250n but he died a few years ago but his sons kept the business on and they said it would be no problem fittin turbo to gs so that will be my next mod after body work.
Congratulations. That's a great find.
Are you sure it's an '89? It has the same striping as my '91 (though you're in the UK, are you not?).
yeah im in the uk. yeah it says 89 on the logbook. and the frame number matches so its neva been changed. although the crash bars are from a 95 cause they have been stamped. dont no if u's have heard of an oil additive called zx1, but it is used by N.A.T.O and is for sale ova here in halfords, i put that in today and took it a run and it make the gs engine so much quieter and smoother.
Might be an '89, but as lumpoffire said, those are '91 markings, even for the UK. Bodywork was probably replaced.
Nice lookin' bike though!!
yeah my other bike that is posted is topic gs exhaust is a 91 with same colours. fork seals went today. i was going bout 30mph and went into a pothole which was not there yesterday and blew the fork seals just hope i did not damage the forks as they bottomed out real bad.
