I was thinking, "Hey you know what would freaking rock? A SHIFT LIGHT ON MY GS!"
In theory an automotive shift light should work right? I'm sure someone else has done this, pics please?
What's the point of a shift light? Don't you already know when to shift? I think a gear indicator would be kinda useful....
sound like u need help shifitng, i jugest shifting for dummies :icon_mrgreen:

i'd like to have one of those also...gear indicator i mean
When it stops going faster, shift gears. Shift by sound. Don't look down at your instruments, they don't tell you anything you need to know. You should be focused on the road ahead. That's why the first thing they do at a track day is tape up everything but your tach. :thumb:
Obseve your tach out of the corner of your eye while shifting up. After a while you should be able to shift within 500 RPM without looking at the tach.
Thanx appreciate the EXCEEDINGLY helpful input.
I could explain my reasons but I just don't feel like it.
Next time post only if you have something to add besides shifting for dummies.
I raced SCCA (Sports Car Club of America) for a while and always used a shift light, so do a lot of the other guys.
Anyways thank you so much for your exceedingly useful flaming... I mean help.

thank you. Much apprecciated.
Don't worry "earballers" I won't put one on your bike.
I didn't call you an idiot. Where's the flame?
A motorcycle provides far more feedback than a car does. Cars have big exhaust systems and rubber engine mounts. Sometimes it's hard to hear the engine, which is not the case with the GS and an aftermarket exhaust! Nowhere in my post did I assume you were a dummy, nor do I consider what I said to be "shifting for dummies".
I was only suggesting that you try to tune your ears. If you do that there is no need to stare at a light.
I hate the shift light on my car, it is ghey. In fact all shift lights are ghey!!! :2guns: :2guns: :2guns:
i was wondering why do you want one? do you want it to light up at the revs that peak power is or something?
My friends R6 has one (factory I guess) I think you can set it to come on when you want .. When I ride it.. i have only gotten it to come on a few times.. I dont think I have broken 11-12 RPM on it yetThat friggin R6 is FAST! :icon_mrgreen:
I'd want to have it light up when a gear change was optimal. (Where the ratio advantage is no longer useful because the engine slopes off) Translation, the optimal shift point.

They got people in lab coats on their web site. They must know their 5h1t.
BTW CirclesCenter, I've seen flames, and you sir did not get flamed. And no one listens to Teflon Nick.
Oh, a serious reply actually.
Is there anything better about a shift light than drawing a fat line with fluorescent magic marker on the tach? I assume since the torque curve doesn't dip until about redline and the gears are all so close, that you'd just have one line for all 5 shift points, and it would be around 10K.
you should know what gear your in at all times. always, once you get the feel of a bike you will know when yo shift, on the gs the power starts droping off after 8900 rpm and peakes at 8500 sho shif at 9000 and then you should be right back in it.
