Title: Anything but my gs500 y2k tail lights :(
Post by: trend on June 17, 2006, 08:50:08 PM
Just got my gs500.. Here is what my tail light look light now:

I HATE the rectangular stop light... Any way to use a more -up-to-date- light? like:

I am sorta liking:

(more oval)

or even like:

I guess I just like the oval shape MUCH better.. what do you'll think? the ebay auction look like a good deal? (I don't really like the clear  honestly though..)

And I don't want to replace the whole back fairings

Ideas?

How hard would this project be ?

thanks
Lee

Lee, the early R1 taillights (like this one (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1999-to-2000-Yamaha-R1-Tail-Light_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ35594QQitemZ4650385632QQrdZ1)) will swap right onto the GS.  I wanted to get one but never got around to it (obviously).

There's more info on Pantablo's site: http://pantablo500.tripod.com/id55.html

CAUTION...

You may have to swap out the complete tail fairings in order to accomodate the oval-shaped lense...  Unfortunately, I'm not sure what years came with rectangle and which came with oval.

I purchaced a r1 taillight for my yamaha snowmobile and just had it laying around.  it is the older rectangular one from 98-99.  It fit right in with minimal mods to the light itself.  It doesn't have the rounded look but it is 10 times brighter than the orginal.  I will take pics and post later.
