I'm a new owner of a 1989 GS300E and like the bike, but I'm not too happy about the bars. I've noticed from the parts diagram online that in 1989 the bars were different than later models. The bars on the 1989 are set low and more for racing and later bars are set higher. The 1989 bars are also two piece bars and mount on each side of the top triple clamp. Later years are standard type bars.
I would like to know what it would take to change over to the newer bar style? I'm also woundering if the pegs and foot controls are also set further back than the later models. Does anyone know or have done this before?
Thanks in advance
look at pics in my topic (gs exhaust) i changed my clip-ons to standard bars.

I did notice that they were only available on the 1989 model. I just think they would be a little hard on long rides.
I would be willing to exchange parts with someone. I'm looking for all stock parts in exchange for all stock parts. The bike was left outside so there will be a little rust and wear from age. I will get some pics posted so that you can see the bars before the exchange.
Thanks
PM AlphaFire X5 about a trade. He's been chomping at the bit for an '89 setup.

Oh man, that was a while ago. I got my SM2s and am very happy now...
Although...
Oh man, I might have to go get some bars and trade out. I wish I hadn't sold my spare bar clamp from the '92!! DAMN!

Yeah, but if he's not willing to accept $10... well damn, I'd go buy some Superbike bars or somethin'. But I don't know how I'd deal with the issue of the horn hitting the tank at full lock. I might get used to it, but still slightly annoying. Hmm... apen01, send me a PM if you want to deal.
I feel so freaking swooped by Alpha!
Haha, god deal man. I'd like some nice bars sometime though!
