Title: Damn MSF instructors don't know crap! Can't believe my test results!
Post by: NiceGuysFinishLast on June 18, 2006, 09:34:15 AM
I can't freaking believe it..  All that time on the course, when I showed them what kind of a rider I was, all my insightful (and not smart alecky at all) comments... and after all that crap...

THEY ACTUALLY PASSED ME!!!

Man, that was a freaking blast. Sitting on my GS sure does feel a lot different than those little Kwaka 250 cruisers. They sure were fun though. I actually managed to drag a peg through a turn, I was pretty pleased with myself.

So the results are in, I aced the written, and lost points on the U-turn box (which I knew I would.. I managed to do it correctly one out of three attempts ) I'll be practicing u-turns on my own bike for the next few weeks.

Just thought I'd check in and say hey, and now I'm off for my first (almost) legal ride. Going to the DMV tomorrow with my cert to get my class-M.. woohoo!!!

Those little cruisers are pretty easy to drag pegs with.  I did it several times on the GZ250 I was on.  The 15 mph slalom was lots of fun.  Scrape, scrape, scrape....

Wasn't it FUN?!?!

I don't know...  He had a bike at home and already insured, has gear on the way...  I have a feeling he was scared to death!   When I took it I was bikeless, gearless, insuranceless, and figured I would be for a while.  I didn't have anything to lose.

I know I had a blast.  They put me on a Rebel 250 with barely 100 miles.  Poor thing, it was already missing the turn signals and had a big dent in both sides of the tank.   8)

Bwahaha.. you nailed it GeeP! I was about to crap myself if I failed. I knew I was going to lose points on the U-turn, I'd been screwing it up all day. But I knew I could do all the other stuff. I just got back from like 2 hours of riding.. I put about 45 miles on my bike today, and man, was it FUN!!!!!! I actually went to a parking lot.. guess who did U-turns effortlessly, first try? Yeah.. don't I feel dumb now? Lol... Made my first stupid newb mistake too. Two of them, actually. First, I went to cancel my turn signal and hit my horn. I just happened to be next to a rather attractive female jogger in a skimpy outfit. So that was embarrassing. Second, and rather more serious, I was coming up to a right turn, first gear, clutch in, probably 10mph... light turned green.. I didn't rev match correctly, and let the clutch out too fast.. slid the back end for a second until the tire started spinning again (it was wet), but carried her through no problems. Didn't pull a bonehead and chop the throttle or anything like that. I'm going on a small group ride tonight with 2 of the other guys who took the MSF with me, one rides a Gixxer 750, the other rides a C B Arrr 600 Arr Arr (just for you Alpha!). They both stunt, which makes me nervous about riding with em, but they only stunt on private property, by their houses... They actually seem pretty safety conscious while on the street, which I like. They were making fun of me for my "little" bike... All I gotta say about that is that I was pulling onto a road where the limit is 55.. and I got there WAAAAAAAAAAAAY faster than I've ever done in/on anything else before! I've had her up to 60 so far.. and man.. it's a freaking blast. I can't imagine ever wanting anything that's faster.. the GS is more than enough bike for me for at least the next couple of years.

Also, the MSF course made me SOOOOOO much more confident on my bike, it's ridiculous. I was pulling tight turns, u-turns, accelerating through turns, looking where I wanted to go, etc, and it was all second nature. Even though the GS is a lot higher than those little cruisers, I never once felt off balance, I was much smoother on the clutch, didn't stall her, didn't drop her... just wow... What a huge difference 2 days makes!

hahaha dragged a peg?  I hate riding my Maxim 400 now because after riding sportbikes for so long I manage to break a peg off the baster everytime I touch it.

Wait, so they just took the MSF course and have a 750 and a 600? And they stunt? And they make fun of the GS because it's little? Sounds like they are pretty big tools to me.

And the CB Arrr thing is courtesy of Egaeus, I just stole it :)

Sounds like you've had a grand time so far.  Looks like it too, judging by your 2 big paragraphs.  Too excited to hit the "Enter" key eh?   :icon_mrgreen: :icon_razz:

Watch out for Gixxer guy and CBArr dude, I don't like the sound of them...

Remember:  Let the clutch out sloooooowly!   :)

Keep us informed!

Oh, EDIT:  I suggest you skip the ride tonight.  Get out on the road alone for a while, you can use the practice.  Plus, these guys sound a little wild.  If you do go, ride your own ride and know the way home.  I have a feeling they'll leave you behind when they take off at warp speed.  Whatever you do, DON'T TRY TO KEEP UP!

Just got back from the ride... Only ended up riding with one guy, the one with the Gixxer 750. It was a good ride. We took it nice and easy. Never went more than 5 over the speed limit. He went nice and slow, made sure I could keep up. I let him lead, I kept a nice 3.5 second following distance. He never tried to stunt, and I never tried to do anything stupid just to show off or keep up. I got to actually do a lot of stuff with the GS tonight, I was doing u-turns, weaves, etc, just for fun in a parking lot. It was a good time. I'm up to 70 miles of my own on her. Was going to try to hit 100, but it's almost 10, figured I'd come home and go to bed, get off work tomorrow and put in another 30 or 40 miles.

You dirty thief!  Don't you know I made that up all by myself?!  Yeah, that's the ticket! :icon_mrgreen:
