GR?  Only GR I know of is the old 650...which isn't a very spectacular engine...you're talking about something else, right?

...slow...

Even with something everyone wants it's hard for many to justify the expense.  I still manage to sell at least one kit every 2 months.

some one here bought my GT sssa... installed it in the frame....and never finished the shock mounting
never to be heard from again

he didn't seem to understand that the linkage suspension allows for a much softer spring
GT has ...what a 950 # spring or something like that...
i think the YSR50 has a ....2000 # spring.....
I tried swapping a fox MB shock.....WAY TO SOFT!!!!

The GT runs a 1300-pounder...lol

I can't use the GT suspension in ANY of my kits.  It's all Ducati-style linkage...which is really ingenious.

All the swingarms I use I either build or buy off ebay (Hawk GT pieces)...and I use Ducati wheels.  The Brmbo wheels are light and cheap and carry a 180 perfectly.

you don't use the VFR stuff?
or triumph?
Title: Re: Who fit the GR motor in the GS frame
Post by: makenzie71 on June 19, 2006, 11:20:50 PM
The VFR swingarm is too wide and the swingarm alone is too scarce and expensive...plus I'd have to go through the same trouble to fit the ducati wheel.  Saves me a few bucks going with the GT swingarm.  Plus, the GS swingarm makes suspension adaptation mondo easy with the TL...You just have to cut a couple brackets for the suspension to perch to the frame with.  not so easy with the VFR piece.

Triumph is waaaayyyy too scarce and expensive.

Plus there's the same suspension issue with triumph...

The Ducati style setup is crazy simple to use and apply to just about EVERYTHING!

Just mount the shock 90* with the earth and adjust the ride-height arm appropriately.  Since the Duc and GT swingers are almost identicle in length it's a perfect combination

Yeah...a roller...will you finnish it, though?  I have a friend (patracy on the world wide web) with an RGV...he's been "finnnishing it" for about 3 years...lol.

got to get some plates welded in to fit the DR650 engine
the 250 is in 2 boxes.....tore slap apart....from unknown causes
shop didn't want to do the job....so it sat for 3-4 yrs...

Robinm1....appears to be from NZ......still i wish the pics were back....

You can't assemble the motor yourself?  You're not even going to go with another 2-smoker?  You should be ashamed!

However, if you'd like to part ways with any of the 2-smoker motor stuff hit up patracy at gmail dot com and tell him I sent you...he might be intersted.

i even have the super kewl D1? puter for it....they usually go for 6-8 bucks
rebuild isn't all that $$....just don't want it

my first bike is a RZ350 still have....16-18 yrs later...wife will go before the bike :icon_mrgreen:

i stopped from pulling the engine out of the TZ250....i couldn't do that to a NICE TZ!!!
so i got an old Nail RG-V...seriously unloved...perfect fo a thumper!

some day i'll build a TZ roller and install a spare RZ engine........it will have about as much power as......well, a TZ

In reply to the first poster, I put a GR650 motor into a '89 GS500 chassis, used the GR carbs  with pod filters and the complete loom from the GR. The top rear mount lined up, all other mounts had to be made. The fun part was the exhaust, the GR exhuast ports were almost directly behind the downtubes but a couple of tight bends and then into a GS collector with a gutted Moto Guzzi can and all was well. The thing went well, the GR motor puts out good power , along with the fairly light weight of the GS chassis meant a good performer.
