Title: took the car to work today
Post by: mp183 on June 21, 2006, 06:46:13 AM
Got spoiled last week and the start of this week.
Was taking the GS to work.
Took the car today and am stressed out already.
Nothing to do with traffic, just the usual BS at work.
Taking the bike puts you in a different mood and
it lasts for at least a few hours into the workday.
Even after a stressful day at work, going home on
the bike just relaxes you.
This is all in North Jersey and NYC traffic.
I can imagine how relaxed you guys must get out in
the smaller cities.

Its great. I take the back roads home nad stay off the major highways. Much more relaxing after a long day of idiots (users) calling me with stupid problems I don't have time for..

I work in east hanover and have to commute an hour to and from work every day.  Yeah, the rush hour traffic around here is horrible.  I rode my bike to work for the first time last week and found I actually enjoyed it.  I find dealing with all the crazy people on the rode is actually kind of fun when you're on a bike and surprisingly not as stressful.  Doing 70MPH on RT 10 in rush hour bumper to bumper traffic is a lot more interesting on a bike too.  Not to mention I feel bad ass when I have a helmet on my desk.

I miss riding to work... but it seems too practical to not ride the bus, and I don't like riding the bus.  Parking costs way too much in Minneapolis ($10+), and I haven't been able to find discounted motorcycle parking yet.  I do plan on riding a few times anyway just because I don't get a chance to ride nearly as much as I should.

I do feel more relaxed and awake when I ride to work in the morning, and better during the day when I can look forward to the ride home (though sometimes I get distracted thinking about the ride home)

i don't think i'd enjoy riding in stop and go traffic if i lived somewhere i couldn't split lanes. i love cruising by everyone who can't move :flipoff: but i hate not being able to move myself.

I don't know if I could ever go back to commuting in a car. I've done the hour plus commute thing and now that my job is only 7 miles away is when I have a bike, but I still take the bike about 95% of the time. But I wonder if I could ever go back. I always read of people just getting fed up with street riding too many close calls are have lost too many friends, and they lose their interest in riding on the streets. I could understand, but I sure hope I don't feel that way one day.

Commuting by car for an hour each way in a car scares me now.

A bike is the only transport I have... I wouldn't give it up for any cage, though, I absolutely love it. Lane splitting in a blast! All those cagers crawling along I-5, and I can just zip on through, it's great. Occasionally a cager will swing in to cut you off, but I've noticed more swing wide so you don't hit their mirrors  :icon_mrgreen:
