Title: DVD writing help
Post by: jbeaber on June 21, 2006, 09:29:08 AM
Hey all-
Just got a DVD-R and am tryin to figure out how to back up DVDs.  I have a DVD decrypter and ImgBurn software to do the work.  What brand DVD's do you guys use?  Do you need to use the double length?  I tried to do one last night and there was not enough space on a single length DVD to record.  Thanks!

You can use compression software, which program are you using? I've never used a dual layer but as long as your writer supports it, then thats no problem. I use cheapy brands, Memorex and sometimes Sony but you have to set the speed down lower or you'll get alot of errors and wasted disks.

If is specifically a DVD-R you will have to use a DVD-R disc.  If you have a DVD+R disc and a -R burner then you won't be able to burn the +R disc.  Use DVD-Shrink, it is free and can be gotten here http://www.dvdshrink.org/what.html.  I use DVD decriptor and DVD Shrink and so far have had no problems.  You will want to set DVD decryptor to ignore read errors though to speed up the ripping process.  Then run the files ripped through DVD Shrink to get it to fit on a standard DVD-R disc.
