Title: Today's Flood (Picture Enclosed)
Post by: Phaedrus on June 28, 2006, 05:36:23 PM
Well, we've been getting hammered with rain quite a bit lately. Funny thing is, my town is said to have gotten off pretty easy so far. But they closed the roads - declared a state of emergency - and I couldn't even get to work even though I tried 3 different routes, 3 different ways. Yes, that is probably why I have been being annoying on here all day: Nothing to do. Not really supposed to leave the house (you can get a ticket for driving in a SOM unless you have an emergency). Nothing do to. Bored. So I went around and took like 50 pictures. Here are a few:

My neighbors yard:

The park down the street from me:

And my street in general:

Eh.

Yut.  :icon_razz:

Home, bike, car, all held up. I must be on some kind of knoll or something, because my driveway didn't even get wet. A couple oo the neighbors got it. The street, along witgh many others in town and around the area, got closed. So far I am "dryer n'a popcorn fart".

There were actually kids (and some adults without kids oddly enough..) out playing in the nasty water. Nevermind the possibility of down power lines, sewer and septic, and other whatnots. And then some jackass in a blue Ford pickup decided to barrel ass through it. He gunned it down hard and rooster tailed it hardcore. Of course he was trying to splash people that were standing nearby. Rangerbrown, was that you?  :icon_razz:

here is a pic of some ding dongs playing in the flood waters. This is not the same area as the other pics, and it is a little further from the river, but it still got quite a pool going (about 2-3 walking blocks from my house). Notice that these are NOT children or even kids...late teenagers or young adults, I'd say.

The delaware, skuykill, and tribuary streams are at a record high.  Some areas are flooded down here in south east Pa.  A lot of bridges are closed.  I crossed the skuykill today and the water was almost touching a railroad bridge, that bridge is usually 15 feet over the water!!!

I spoke to him.  He's doing better.  He was even able to go to work today...lucky him.  I was worried until he finally called me back.  He was just driving when I called.  Things in his area are getting better.

:icon_razz: Yeah, cell service around here is pretty shoddy  (and I only have a cell). We went over to my GF's parents a couple towns over, they were completely isolated yesterday but today  they had one road opened to let supplies and people in. They got it a lot worse. The place her dad works is one of the largest employers in their area, and is closed until further notice. Sucks. And of course they are without electricity. I scouted around town and there were so many houses that were evacuated. Water was up to stop signs in some places, and still is. Police caution tape roped off a lot of areas, there were vehicles stalled and abandoned in the middle of the streets. Kim said it reminded her of "The Day After Tomorrow" or whatever. Heh.

But ya, I'm still kicking  :thumb:
