Title: Yet another set up question.
Post by: Dwn4whadever on June 30, 2006, 07:08:43 PM
Well i have a 1996 GS with 10092 well i was going to rejett my bike and clean the carbs and check my valve clearance. Well i pull the carbs and they are dirty. Well i pull my jets and i find out that i already have 130 and 40 jets. Do you think i can put on pods with this set up or should i go bigger. Or should i get the infamous lunch box. I will be taking some pics tomorrow. And whats the name of those thing you check the valve clearance with.  :thumb: :thumb: :thumb: I think i have a stock filter on it and they were no washers on the needles. Also those who remember i had a problem with the bike running lean and hanging at 3k. This is problaly why.

Thansk in Advance.

I have not seem pods for the gs for LESS than $100. Im sure you could find them but I ve looked on the net and havent seen them. The lunchbox is pretty much 35 shipped maybe less than that. Dont know about the pilots and jets.  :dunno_white:

i got pods on mine (a 95) and 130 was too small i finally ended up on 140s with 2 3/4 turns out 3 was too rich and i think 2 3/4 is still a little rich looking at the plugs, to be honest i lost lost a bit of the very top end power, it feels better right through till about 9k but drops off suddenly and when your in top gear or 5th you struggle to get it past, i used to be able to do 120mph on the clock but now im at about 110mph on the clock, but it feels like i have more in the normal riding range, there is a guy in greece that i got mine from his postage is really resonable
http://stores.ebay.com/BK-Racing-Parts is his shop and he will post any where, you'll need 60mm ones, good luck :thumb:

Here are some pics of everything. I think i might have lost those infamous tiny Orings on the  diaphram side of the carbs though. But i checked Bikebandit.com and they have it.
130s and 40s

What exactually is this thing. It is hanging from the backside of the diaphram.  :dunno_white:

That is the float needle.  The rubber tip fits inside of the brass "well" in the last 2 photos.  When the floats rise because of incoming fuel, the needle is pushed upward and plugs the hole in the brass item (the "float needle seat") and prevents additional fuel from entering the float bowls.  As fuel is sucked up through the jets ... the floats drop a bit, the needle recedes from the seat, and more fuel enters the bowl.

Make sense?
