I just bought an 06' GS500F about 2 weeks ago. The first night I took it home and noticed when it got there, that it was leaking oil and burning it off the exhaust. The dealership picked it up and "fixed" the problem(apparantly a loose nut on the oil line), after taking 2 days to do so. I got my bike back and was able to ride it for about 3 days when I realized that it was leaking oil AGAIN. I have never owned a bike but this can't be a good sign. The bike has roughly 230 miles on it and I dropped it off at the dealershiop last friday night and they still have it at this time(were closed for holiday sunday-tuesday). I'm pretty annoyed that 1. my new bike and 1st bike is being this much of a pain, I bought NEW to AVOID this 2. the dealership takes so damn long to fix a new bike, i mean they have had it in their garage more than I have had it in mine. Do you guys have any suggestions? Should I call suzuki customer service directly and speak with them about the issue? What should I say to them. I would just like to be able to ride something I shelled out money for if ya know what I mean. Any sugestions would be helpful. Thanks guys. :mad:

Its a hard machine to snap, Tell those cork suckers at the stealership to give you a new F($(ing bike!!
I think you either got a lemon, or perhaps the dealership's mechanic that assembles the bikes out of the crate dropped the ball.
Bikes are not shipped 100% assembled - I'd find out if your bike had anything having to do with oil seals/lines/etc. assembled at the dealership prior to them selling the bike to you.
This is the lemon law for my state, According to this if I have the same problem(oil leak) 3 times and it happens again I can receive a new bike. Or if it is in repair for 30 days. I am at 7 days already. I have always hated car dealerships, I guess bike dealers are just as good to customers.
In addition to that definition of a lemon bike, the Ohio Motorcycle Lemon Law has four more definitions of a lemon bike. If you fit any definition, then you are entitled to a new motorcycle or your money back, but these definitions only apply during the first 18,000 miles of use or within the first year after the motorcycle is sold in "new" condition.
1. Number one, did the same defect occur three times without getting repaired at the end of the third attempt?
2. Number two, was your motorcycle in the shop for warranty repairs of defects for a total of 30 days or more? Be sure to count weekends and holidays, if they had your motorcycle then.
3. Number three, did your bike have nine different defects or more than that? Eight is the maximum number of defects allowed under the Ohio Motorcycle Lemon Law.
4. Number four, did your bike have a "deadly" defect that did not get fixed on the very first attempt? A bad motorcycle can be a lot more dangerous to ride than a bad car or truck. Because of that, the manufacturer only gets one chance to fix a defect that is so serious that it is likely to cause an accident or someone to get hurt if the defect is not fixed on the very first attempt.
Got an 05 they are the same bike just different decals and color. Never had a problem with mine. I would definatly write/ email/ call suzuki customer care and let them know what is going on and how you feel. Might not get anything out of it but worth a shot. The laws are in your favor get the bike back if it leaks a 3rd time ask for a new bike.
Recieved word from my dealer today that it is a blown head gasket. What the hell is that crap? I have only rode 200 miles and it has not been above 5500 rpm as the manual says. They say I rode it too hard and blew it. They said "We called Suzuki and they said they will fix it this time". At least it's getting fixed I guess. But for now I am with no bike until at least tuesday because they had to order parts. I can't believe the bike blew a head gasket so easily. I guess I will take it VERY easy for the next 600-1000 miles.
Yeah have those guys fix it or give you a new bike. :thumb:
Man your situation is jacked up. But yeah like others said, don't let this deter you from the GS, it is a good bike. Mine had some carb problems the first 1000 miles and that really got me ticked. I was going to start getting bitter but it didn't last long. But after that, it has been wonderful. WHEN you get it back, take care of it and enjoy it.
A question for you guys. They were saying that I ran it too hard but here is what I'm thinking. The salesman who sold me the bike rode it to my house for me the day I bought it, This included about 20 miles on interstate driving, which no one said was bad for the bike and i'm new to it so I had no idea. Would him riding it on the interstate at about 70mph be able to damage the head gasket that first night when it was brand new? That is what i am thinking happened,because the 1st leak started that night,but that was the "loose nut on the oil line" and they didnt want to test drive the bike fast because it was brand new and when they test drove it today, they said it didn't really start leaking oil till about 5000-7000 rpm's. I think the salesman made a mistake by taking it on the highway that 1st night and they didn't want to admit it. Also, could you guys give me some advice on how to break the bike in properly once I get it back. All I was told was to not go above 5500 rpm's. What else should I do? Thanks for all the help guys!

How would running the engine too hard cause the head gasket to go? Thats what I would ask them.
