You check your oil, better than some of us here at GStwins...

Yes, that's what stated in my manual as well. Bike in upright position without center stand and don't screw the dip stick in, which seem to go against the general suggestion around here.
Tad, I think it will be written on your will somewhere...
'It was on the damn centerstand!"
Dude I can't promise, but I'll try to keep the refs to that down.... No promises though.
Eh, I think the 1/8" difference either way is not a huge deal.
My manual said to screw it in, every car I've worked on said to screw it in, other suzukis say to screw it in. i say screw it in.
But really 1/8" will not make that much diff.
You don't screw in the diprod, it just sits on the top of the thread. My handbook (03) says quite catagorically DO NOT use the centrestand. It says "1)Hold the motorcycle vertically without centre stand. 2) The oil filler cap threads are NOT in but touching the filler hole upper edge"
You will find that holding the bike without using the stand can be tricky on your own so a lot of us do use the centre stand. My Yamaha has an oil "window" and you have to squat down to see it balancing the bike by one bar-end, awkward but you can do it with practice. It you are unsure but want a 100% acurate read, get a buddy to hold the bike whilst you take the reading. (or sit on it)
Thanks Cal, your like a English form of Kerry

Someone will always contradict you.
Whether you are right, wrong or indifferent it is besides the point. In the world of forums, EVERYONE is wrong.
Sweet. I still think the 1/8" difference is fairly inconsequential.
Cry me a river
Then will you build me a bridge? Then we can both get the f%$k over it?
ehhh, thats pretty funny

It's more like 1/4". Which is about half the distance from L to F.
Not that it really matters; there's plenty of safety margin there.
Hey guys, I just quoted the handbook. I don't think the difference is critical but perhaps some people do................
Cal, I checked my owners manual on my 1990 gs and it says to put it on the centerstand. I wonder what caused the change in the instructions over the different model years? Interesting.
Chris
Drop in, not screw in.
:P
I don't care.
Look how bad my feelings are hurt, the pain the agony, the thousand slings and arrows flesh is hier to!
