Title: Woohoo 45.7hp at rear wheel
Post by: Lukewarm Wilson on July 14, 2006, 12:31:49 AM
Hooray the dyno has just been done with the K&N filter and jardine exhaust and rejet I get 45.7 RWHP  :o thats 2.5HP more then the V&H system the mechanic was so happy he wants to take it home, now I just have to wait till tomorrow to go pick it up but im very happy also might be getting a set of GS500E clip ons off him for $120 Aust complete so not a bad price so people who have bought the jardine now know what to expect WooHoo :icon_mrgreen: :icon_mrgreen: :thumb:

now lets go to reality...ignore the noise....

can your ass-o-meter feel a difference? in 2.5 hp?

spend a couple more and get a 14T CS sprocket and then tell me if you feel a diff....

oh yeah, congrats on getting it up and running at it's best

What were your stock readings. If they were 36 or so, then that's a huge jump.

Why not take a really good dump before you get on the bike??? the weight saved might give you another 0.1 (ballpark fig) hp. :o

care to share your set-up?
I'm also curious what type of K&N filter you have & what you put in for jet sizes.  :thumb:

Stage one is for stock everything.

Stage two is for stock airbox, slipon exhaust.

Stage three is for K&N lunchbox/pods, free-flowing exhaust.. So I'm thinking you needed a stage three. But quite honestly, DJ kits are a ripoff anyway. Return the kit when you get it, and go to sudco.com to order your jets. Instead of $60+, you spend about $15 on jets, and you're set. Do a search here on the forum to find the right sizes, and part numbers.

I am beyond caring about whats a rip off or whats not. I just want a stage 3 kit. They dont have them on the site. Anyone know where i can get one besides ebay?

The Dynojet kit usually covers Stage-1 and Stage-3.  At least the kits used to come with 2 sets of mainjets--which is the basic difference between the two stages.

Of course, that's Aussie horsepower.  :icon_rolleyes:   I wonder how that compares to the DJ dynamometer?  Different dynos give different numbers.  If you didn't do a stock run for a baseline comparison, I guess we'll never know.   :dunno_white:

Got it back Saturday and wouldn't you know raining all day and trafffic everywhere but out in the rain I noticed that the bottom end was a little stronger not much difference except sounds much better its when you hit about 5000rpm you really start to notice and yes by the seat of the pants its noticeable not like OMG this a totally new bike but there is a much more noticeable rush to red line and the power comes on much stronger and acceleration is much better for those who would like to know I am running a 14T sprocket and a drop in K&N filter I can't give you jet sizes as I forgot the sizes he said and he was a little cagey about telling me I guess shop secrets etc but I will try and question him some more about it when I may buy the orig GS500E clip ons from him and next time the bike needs a tune I will put an advancer on it.
I was hoping to have a sound byte ready today but as I went out on saturday night for a 50th birthday party I wasnt in much of a state yesterday to anything including go for a ride so the above is only a small discription I hope to be able to tell you more when I go for a proper ride but to sum up was it all worth $915.00 Aust yes it was bike runs well sounds great (best one I have heard so far) and pulls well so if your in any doubt its well worth it  :thumb:

you dont need to do the advancer. its only the u.s. guys that need to do it they are 5'btdc and every where else in the world is 12'btdc and both types fully advance to 40'btdc
i tryed it on my one, and at a 5' advance (bringing it to 17'btdc, and 45' at full revs) it was terrible down low, wouldn't idle and basically had to clutch it till 3krpm to get it moving.
but once it was up and running,.  it was great at full revs . magic, but its a pay off between down low and up high. for us any way, for the u.s. riders it would be perfect 10' at low revs and 45' at full revs.
thats pritty expensive to get your bike tuned, if you wanna know what you have why don't you just open the float bowl and look at the top of the jets, the number is on there,
then all you have to have a look at is the clip height but i bet thats at the bottom clip position
and where your mixture screw is set to, my guess is 2.5 turns out :thumb:

Thanks for the Info just to let you know the old jets were drilled out and not replaced so whats stamped on them will make no difference in knowing what size they are now also that price included the exhaust system and K&N filter the dyno was about $350 by itself which is about what I expected but that sounds like good news for the advancer :thumb:
Title: Re: Woohoo 45.7hp at rear wheel
Post by: hmmmnz on July 17, 2006, 01:32:53 AM
oh really, i can't beleive people are still drilling jets(i thought people stopped doing that in the 60's :icon_mrgreen:) ) yep i think that would make it harder to figure out what you have as an equivilent jet size, well the price isn't too bad if its including a full system as well. there were probly quite a few man hours gone into getting the jet sizes right.. is $350 a fair price in oz for a dyno run, you would know better than me,

That's... odd. I went from 5' to 12', which helped the low end a lot, and then to 17', which helped a little more, but not dramatic. I have read several times that it doesn't make any difference at higher revs at all.

the advance is electronic. so if you alter your timing manually, it will change the top end as well, as its still advancing the original 40' plus what you added as an advance, the electronics don't compensate, it doesn't know any thing has changed :thumb:

I've had my bike dyno'd, bog stock it does 38rwhp, my mechanic charges $110/h for 2 dyno runs (before/after), and carb tuning/labour, depends how much works involved on getting the jetting right. He says its usually 1-1.5 hours to get it sorted. So $350 AUD is a HUGE price for dyno runs, some places its $50-80 just for a run, no tuning.

According to the invoive I got after the tune, my 01 GS is running 115 main's.

I'd like to pony up some dollars for mods for the GS, but I'll just bide my time spending a few buck on oil top ups, and get a Supermoto when the time comes
