i suggest a manual. it's really worth the 25 bucks or so. you can start with oil changes and brake pad changes and all the really easy stuff. people on this board are really helpful but you can't expect them to remember every single detail, from bolt torques to which bolts need theadlocking compound, what the correct procedure is to take stuff apart, what to watch out for ... if you only rely on people here they'll forget to tell you some important detail and you'll start messing things up and breaking them.
to answer your question: replacing the brake pads is not hard, if the brake pads are all that needs replacing. for the fronts, you need to unbolt the caliper and slide it off the disc before you can get the pads off. for the rear you can pull the pads up out of the caliper without removing it from the bike. the toughest part is prying the pistons apart prior to installing the new pads.
however, if your brake pads are really worn down, you may have more serious problems. on my bike the PO had allowed the rears to wear about 1 mm into the metal. the pistons had come out so far from the caliper that it was impossible to get them back in; the dust seals had also ripped so the pistons were gunked up and needed replacing.
so, as long as you don't need to rebuild the brakes its pretty easy.
i think the back disk is a bit rooted but
i just want to do this my self and i dont want to be flying down the rod and my brakes fall off lol
I didnt think you ever used your brakes Deathlucky :o
