rear wheel drive is best for drifting unless u wanna e-brake the whole time.

My drifting buddies are into hachis right now. They were into 240s, but those are dwindling in favor of the rolla. Don't think the rx-7 guys drift too much.. But yeah, hachis in SoCal. Dunno if they have different taste in Florida.
wth are hachis? :dunno_white:

Hachi Roku. Stands for the AE86 chassis on older Toyota Corollas. Not my taste, but I've got a bunch of friends who are enthusiasts (read: fanatical).
This must be a warm state thing......
This is my next cage for sure!

Its a Lotus Elise, its curb weight=1,984 lbs., stock 190 HP, 0 to 60 in 4.7 seconds, top speed 150 mph. It got a hybrid of the same 1.8 liter that's in my Toyota matrix so I know in will run for a long time! I've already driven one, and just so you know they handle and drift like a dream come true!
AJ it is a warm state thing. Since in the snow states we drift all the time in the winter. Its just that we usually don't plan on it
yeah but the only problem is that their arent that many corners

Lotuses are freakin' awesome. Amazing cars. Tell me you're giong for British racing green? Or yellow? ;) We had a Lotus join us on our last Mustang cruise, and some guy in an sti wanted to play with him on the freeway. The Lotus walked the guy as if he were parked.
yeah my dads friend has one, their really fun :icon_mrgreen:

I'm thinking silver metallic that what my Matrix is now. Silver gives the Lotus that classic 60's sports car look, and it and always looks clean even when its not. But my second choice would be the green!
See so many of those down here it's sorta expected. Get a skyline, altho there were never released in the states there are some over here. Boss500 is getting one soon, couple of months it should be here.

Is that the light silver, or the darker color (charcoal metallic?) We've got a charcoal one in town, and it kinda takes away some of the pizzazz of having a Lotus. I think I've seen a silver one around--looks good.
The Skyline is a bit too "Fast and the Furious" for my taste. Rice-y.
first gen Miatas (MX5) can be turned into formidable track and drift cars with only a few modifications. turbos and superchargers are easy to come by and are CA emissions friendly. Racing Beat makes some nice body kits too. Parts are plentiful and cheap.
i own a 2005 MX5 MazdaSpeed and i LOVE it. great feel of the road, light, nimble, and plenty of power formy needs.

My second choice would be a BMW E30.

Biggest question here:
HOW MUCH MONEY CAN YOU ACTUALLY SPEND ON THIS CAR?
There are very few cars that you can buy for a decent price that are "drift ready" so you need to sit down and calculate how much money you really have.
You best bet would probably be to find someone that has already built a 240SX or a Celica GT-S (AE86 chassis) and is tired of it. If you buy a stockish car and try to go drifting you'll be very sorely dissappointed.
One question - why fork out a ton for a lotus elise when you can buy a vaxhall vx22 - maybe an opal in your countries lol. But its identical performance for less money plus it looks better in my opinion. What you really want is the lotus exige (sp) the tunes up elise in bright orange. Thats a mean machine.

I'd say plenty of rx-7 guys drift. The only reason there aren't as many is because they are more rare, and they are more expensive. An rx-7 would make a great dift car. Oh, and plus insurance and stuff is a lot more, where as a 240 and AE86 are quite a bit cheaper.
RX7's and RX8's will definitely drift nicely, but will cost more $ than the examples i posted.

A good drifter should be rear wheel drive (or maybe all wheel drive) and have a 50/50 weight distribution. The Nissan 240SX is a great platform because it is a cheap rear wheel car that is very very well balanced. The downside with it is it doesn't have limited slip so you'll only be able to spin one wheel and it is a little underpowered so drifting lousy in the dry, OK in the wet, but great in the snow. You can go a buy a limited slip rear end and axles from a Silvia in Japan to fix the one-wheel-peel problem and turbo the stock KA24DE engine or drop in a SR20DET engine to fix that power problem.
A better option would be a BMW 325is or an M3. Both have limited slip and a bit more power and are also very well balanced.
I've been wondering about the new Poniac Solstice as its specs make it appear to have the makings for a good drifter, but I've never seen one drifted before.
Front wheel drive cars suck as drifters because your only option is to use the ebrake, and unless you're in the snow it's pointless. One thing that you can do is drive the rear wheels onto lunch trays and lock up the ebrake. You can then light up the fronts and it will drift a lot like a RWD car until the trays melt through.
AWD cars are cool. The STI does alright, it has enough power to light up all for wheels and whip around pretty nicely. My A4 with only 200bhp, drifted very nicely in the snow, and with a little work in the wet. Now with 300+bhp drifting it is cake.
I use to have an AWD 91' Eagle Talon many moons ago when I lived in WI, I had narrow snow tires for the winter season and found it very hard to drift in the snow with out using the parking break, it would always go wherever the front wheels were pointed. Man I miss that car, I got t-boned by a Suburban that blew threw a red light, worst day of my life, I was alright, but the car was scrap metal.
