Title: painting chrome?
Post by: 12thmonkey on July 15, 2006, 09:35:35 AM
Anybody got any good tips? Working in near the beach has caused my beautiful SV mirrors to develop rust. In my negligence, i allowed it to get to the point where it won't chrome polish out. Seeing as i am not a fan of the chrome anyway, painting them black seems to be a win-win. i was planning on taking them apart, sanding, priming and then painting flat black. Masking the mirror and rubber gasket it's pressed in with will be easy. The part i don't really know what to do with is the pivot where the stalk meets the mirror body. i'm comfortable with a rattle-can...but i was wondering if anyone had any good recommendations for any of these steps (or any different ones), as well as any good paint recommendations.

Powder coating over chrome is better than paint over chrome.
