Just bought my 99 GS little over a week ago and planning to take it on a 200+ mile trip. So I'm trying to make sure the bike is fit enough to run that long.
The thing is I seem to be missing the Vent hose for upper-T and the Airbox drain hose. Now, my question is, how vital are these parts? Will I be able to go 200+ miles without them or will it be bad for the engine?
I have been riding the bike and have racked up about 250+ miles on it.
Any advice will be appreciated. Thanks
Not bad for the engine, but you really should pop down to the hardware store and pick up some replacements. Any kind of 5/16" tubing will work for the carb t-fitting. I'm not sure about the airbox but I think it's a little bit smaller. If your floats get stuck and the carbs overflow you don't want the gas running all over your engine; especially if it's hot.

I'll go ahead and do that. I just didn't know what size the tube needed to be. I'm from Austin, Tx and planning to go to the beach(Port Aransas) this weekend. So do you think it will be fine to ride my bike for 200 miles(roughly)? Thanks man.
Probably, those two hoses are really just a safety precaution. Better safe than sorry though, and if you're not going on your trip until this weekend you have plenty of time to replace them. Maybe shoot AlphaFire a PM to see if he can help.

Howdy! Want to stop by or want me to stop by? I'll give your bike a once over and see what I can do to help.
Vent hose for the upper T - carbs, yes? It's a vent hose, it just drains excess fuel away from the engine and to a safer location.
Airbox drain hose - About the same.
You should be okay if your bike is in good mechanical condition and without carburetor issues. If not though, you should probably try and work some of the kinks out before your trip. I'll be glad to help as much as I can if you need it.
TSorry, but I disagree. The vent hose of the carb should be no problem. The airbox however: That nipple is a leak for unfiltered air. It's not extremely critical, but if you ride through a sandy area you may get additional engine wear.
I wouldn't be too concerned about a 200 mile trip, but do fix that.
Oh and the Airbox drainage is larger. I thin the same diameter as the crankcase vent that connects on top of the airbox. And it has a primitive check valve in the form of a rubber cap with a slit on its end.

Ahh, good point. It would pull air in like that. The airbox vent hose has a block off on it that has a slit through. The only way to open the slit is to pinch the rubber, otherwise it is sealed. I forgot entirely about that.
Lemme rummage around and see if I have an extra...
Many thanks to you guys. I have already got the 5/16" tubing Mandres advised me to get and will be meeting AplhaFire X5 later to get the airbox hose. Thanks again. :)
