I want to run this by everyone and see if anyone has any thoughts or better ideas for the plaque. It will be from the GS site so we should all have some input and I would really appreciate it as well.
Does anyone have any other thoughts as to what to have put on it? Here's what I was thinking... but not sure about the last 2 lines, or if it should be changed or worded differently. I want it to say something about his GS Twin friends & that he'll be missed, but I want it to sound right. I guess I just want it to be perfect for him.
What do you all think? I really appreciate your help.
Here is what I was thinking to put on the plaque:
In Loving Memory of Rich "Gator" Christie
8-20-1980 to 7-1-2006
You will always be in our hearts & thoughts.
Love, Your family & friends at GSTwin
If you think something else would sound better, please let me know.
(Once I know what we want it to say, I will finalize the order and get a date when it will be done. Then I will post up and we can all pick a date, so Rob can tell the fire dept and they can block the road off for us. How does that sound?
Also, Rob needs to know about how many people would be interested in attending this Memorial ride, so please post up if you're interested in attending. Thank you all!
I moved this thread from here to keep track of it easier ... http://gstwins.com/gsboard/index.php?topic=28071.0
I'm in for the ride!
I will be there too
I will be there. I think it is a wonderful idea!
Julie,
I'm in depending on the date.
Chris
Julie,
Same for me.......as long as the date works I am in.
Wayne
We will try to pick a date that is suitable for everyone that wants to attend.
I was thinking also, if it rains on the date we decide on... we can either drive cars there, or pick a rain date, whatever works best for everyone. (I am not a huge fan of riding in the rain.)
Don't worry Julie.........If I bring my rain gear it won't rain........worked on Saturday of the Northeast get together and it was suppose to be a monsoon :o:cheers:
Wayne
it is Nice to see People showing on here I can still feel Gator with us every day I read post from every one 8)

Wayne
Ha Ha... well in that case, make sure to bring your rain gear with ya. Will you be meeting up with us at Kmart in Allentown again Wayne?
I don't know a date for sure yet, but it will most likely be a Saturday in August. (I was thinking the 19th depending on when the plaque is done.) That's just
tentative for now though until I know for sure when the plaque is going to be done. I will find out this coming week for sure.
I just saw this post http://gstwins.com/gsboard/index.php?topic=26941.0 (I don't have a clue how... but wouldn't it be cool if we could somehow link these two rides together... by video or somekind of technology so the LA people could be "with us" on the memorial dedication? Just a thought.)
8/19 is MY birthday  couldn't think of a better way to spend it
I'm 99.99999999999999999 percent sure that 8/19 is good for me:-)
Chris
I'm 100% sure that won't work for me. I've got my rescheduled MSF ERC that day.
Hopefully this will be an annual ride?
I would be honored to attend on th 19th.
LadyJules, I think that is very nice and fitting for the plaque.
Also, what is the route like? Any ideas yet? Just so I know where I should be going and meeting people.

EDIT : There is another post about a ride about when this is. I would like to see them become one if it is possible. I can free up one weekend, and I don't want to pick between the two. Both in the same area.
Im pretty sure the other ride planning died down, and this is the only one. I'd rather see one big ride then two small ones myself. But i cant make it on the 19th, ill be out in Long Island. I keep an eye out to see what date u guys decide on and let u know if im in.
Julie........anything new on the date?
Wayne
And again... I won't be able to make it. It falls on the same day as my already rescheduled MSF ERC date.
Next Year. :thumb:

Hey all... just wanted to give everyone an update. The plaque won't be ready in time for the 19th of August... so, I had to change the date of the Memorial ride unfortunately.
How does Saturday
September 2nd sound? That's the new tentative date and I hope you all can still make the ride!! It would be great to see everyone there. Please post up if you can make it so we can figure out a time and place to meet up at. Thanks everyone!
(If this date's no good for alot of you... because I just realized it's Labor Day weekend... let me know and maybe we can come up with a better date, but it could be better because most people have off for the holiday weekend.)
I was debating on going w/ Spotswood_Suzuki but can't do on Sept. 2 b/c that's my hubby's bdy and we're going to have a huge bbq party for him.
That date isn't good for me. I have a friends wedding to attend. what about the following week? awe shucks. I liked the 19th.

God bless you all !!!!!
His Mom & family
I will do my best to try to keep it for August 19th... so as of now, I guess we'll keep it Aug. 19th, but if the plaque's not done in time, I can't do much about it. I will try my best to make this date work though!! :)
(Wayne, Rob, and Chris2P, you have email...) :)
Ok, well I did my thing, and they said the plaque will be done in time for me to pick it up on Thursday, Aug. 17th... SOOO.. the ride is set for Saturday, August 19th for sure. :thumb:
Please post up who is going for sure. I'll start the list with me and Tazz.. please add to it. :)
1. LadyJules31 (Julie, from Allentown, PA)
2. Tazz (Rob, from Norwich, NY)
Also, please let me know who will be meeting up with me at Kmart on Tilghman Street in Allentown, PA to ride up with me so we can figure out a time. Tazz & Kim, what time do you think we should set up to meet in NY and where exactly will we be meeting? (Maybe you can post an address so we can mapquest it.)
It's about a 4 hour ride I think for me... not sure about everyone else, but please let us know... my quess is that early afternoon would be a good time to meet ... maybe 1:00 pm or so? Input and comments are much welcomed. :)
Hey Wayne, tell me what you plan to do & let me know what route you're taking...are you going to PA to meet up with LadyJules? How far of a ride is that & then how far is the ride from PA to the actual site?
I look up this on mapquest hope it helps I figure it the mall in binghamton then i can show you the way to the site

the Ride from the Mall in binghamton is about one hour if i can help any one how to get here let me know
Sounds like a good date to me, I just need to know what time to meet at that mall and I will do my best to be there. I'll be leaving from here near Williamsport, and head directly up there. If anybody wants to join in just let me know and we'll get a meeting place together. (Anti?)
1. LadyJules31 (Julie, from Allentown, PA)
2. Tazz (Rob, from Norwich, NY)
3. pdg108 (Paul, from Williamsport, PA)
OK so far I should be good to go and get there. AJ is driving out from Indiana that weekend, and the day of the ride is my birthday so forgo-ing any family obstructions we will be there. While I'd like to meet you guys at the mall, riding another hour is just not going to be a good idea, its another hour west for me, in addition to the 3+ I'd already be riding. That gives me 4+the hour back+3 back home = 8 hours total which just isn't going to happen, I'll be dead tired. I may end up driving a cage, we'll have to see and AJ and I might switch off quite a bit because we only have my gs.
1. LadyJules31 (Julie, from Allentown, PA)

3. pdg108 (Paul, from Williamsport, PA)
4. Onlypastrana199 (Lissa, from Melrose, NY)
5. AJGS500 (AJ, from Indianapolis, IN)
I'm glad the ride will be the 19th! I can't wait to meet everyone.
Ladyjules I'm not sure where we should all meet ... maybe in Norwich somewhere and then ride to the site? Norwich is about 11 or so miles from Sherburne (where the site is). We can talk to Rob and see what he thinks. :) Also, please let me know if there is anything else I can do.
I will also be having my parents, two sisters, and a few friends coming as well. They all knew Rich and are also just as appreciative as I am about this memorial plaque ride.

5. AJGS500 (AJ, from Indianapolis, IN)
6. Kimby (Kim, from Bainbridge, NY)
Please take pics. :)
One other thing....
Anyone riding from far away are very much welcome to camp out in my back yard. We also have a family friend that lives close by that are welcoming anyone who would like to camp out there too (they are bikers as well and will be meeting at the site too). I live in Bainbridge (in town) with my family, so it is about a half hour from Norwich.
I have no idea what everyone is planning on doing but I just wanted to let anyone know they are welcome. There are also local campgrounds.
~ Kim
Maybe either you (Kim) or Tazz (Rob) could post a map of the area of the Mall, area you live (for those that may want to camp overnight), and the area of the site so we can figure out where would be the best place for everyone to meet... some of us could meet at the Mall Rob was talking about at Noon. Since he said the Mall's an hour away from the site, we all can meet up at the site at 1pm. (How does that sound?)
Anyone meeting up any other places before riding to the site, other than the mall... can adjust your meeting times accordingly... planning to be at the site by 1:00 pm.
Is anyone coming from around my area that wants to ride up with me? ... Wayne, jackiei26, Chris2P, Sue, Gino, The Antibody?? :)
(I'd rather not ride up there alone... please post if so.) I hope you all can make it. Thanks!!
Keep the list growing. :thumb:

When you get into Sherburne (coming from Norwich) you will get to a light and turn right. You head up that road and there is a sharp corner ...that is the site. I guess Rob is getting it closed off for us if I am correct? I know Rob lives in Sherburne, so I'm sure he can be a little more help. :)
It may even be easier for those that were going to meet at the mall to meet at the Walmart in Norwich, it is right on route 12 and is the same road that leads to Sherburne. What ever you all think is easier ... just a suggestion. Here is a map for that:

Here is a map of the area where I live if anyone is interested in camping out at my house. Just let me know :). I-88 is right in Bainbridge, so it is easy to get back on the highway. There is a shorter route than what the map shows.

One more thing...hehe
Here is a link for a local campground near Bainbridge (about 30 minutes of so from Norwich). Rich and I have camped there many many times and he loved it. We were actually planning to camp there this summer. Just if anyone is interested.

How far is the Walmart in Norwhich from the site? (Miles and minutes?) Just curious.
Maybe we should ALL meet at the Walmart in Norwich at 1:00 pm and ride to the site together??? It might be easier for everyone to find that way and it would be neat to all ride to the site together in one group.
For anyone meeting up with me at Kmart on Tilghman Street in Allentown... here is a link with the address and a map on it.

Depending where we meet... here are links from Kmart to the Mall -vs- Kmart to Walmart:
It will take about 3 hours to get to the site, give or take, so we should probly
meet up at Kmart in Allentown at 9:00 am. That will give us some extra time to stop for gas and what not and be there by 1:00 pm.

No problem Chris. :) I'm glad you will be able to make it. We can meet at the Kmart on Tilghman Street at 9 am on Saturday, the 19th. From there we will head up to the Mall in Binghamton, where Tazz (Rob) will meet us and whoever rides up with us around Noon. (We probly will arrive there around 11:30 or so.) From there, we'll follow Rob to the Walmart in Norwhich where everyone will meet up and all ride to the site together.

Julie,
I am planning on going but not sure where I will meet everyone. It's gonna be a long day to say the least and I don't want to add any more miles on then I have to. I will do the route both to Allentown first and then direct and see how they compare and let you all know.
Wayne
I definately want in. I would like to meet you on I-81 possibly around the New Milford or Binghamton. Either is ok. I'll bring sandwiches. ;)

Wayne,
I hope the the milage difference isnt too much. It would be cool to have a pack of riders, and it may make the time seem to go faster together than alone.
Antibody,
Thats's great that you can make it, we can meet up with you. BTW, my grandfather had a farm in Blloomsberg, scotch valley on RR 1. Havent been up in that area for years but still have a bunch of old friends up there.

I agree... the more the merrier. So far I have Chris and myself confirmed for meeting at Kmart. Please let us know if any of you will be meeting up with us there so we know who we need to wait for before we leave. Thanks so much everyone! Weather I heard is supposed to be sunny and 84... let's hope it stays that way! :thumb:
Anti, just let us know for sure where you want to meet up with us and we'll be there. Glad you can make it!
Julie,
Looks like Randy and I will meet you in Allentown. As you said, weather sounds good and should be a nice ride.
Wayne
Can I suggest bringing some warmer clothes? While it says 84, the weather here has been strange. 84 on the bike seemed rather chilly the other day with the wind hitting me. Plus theres alot of trees up this way, places that don't get sun all day long so it makes for a chilly ride. In fact, on my poker run the other day i wore long johns :o
hey pastrami, i wont be able to make the ride unfortunately, however, i am planning a small memorial for his grave marker consisting of a miniature mc helmet, which will be drilled to accept flowers (the stems) if you would do so, when i get it ready, ill pm you for info, and send it your way so you can place it there at his marker, if it is okay with his fiance, i would be honoured
Ok, I will meet you all in New Milford. I am not too familiar with the area, but there should be some big gas station or something that we can meet at. You said you want to be in Binghamton at 12? I can be In New Milford at 11 if you want to go that route. Someone in that first group, Lady Jules or so, PM me with a phone number so we can talk on Saturday about the meeting place.
THANKS

Nobody else for upstate/mass/ct/vt? If someone else is going I'd like to ride, but its too far for me to go by myself. Otherwise I'll be driving a cage  I think what I'm going to do is go down on friday and camp out, meet AJ there, because driving from Indiana she'll have to go right through there to get to my house so its kind of pointless to drive all the way here just to turn around and go back. That cuts down on my riding/driving time on saturday too so its not all so overwhelming.
My family, friends, and I are looking forward to meeting everyone!!

7. Chris2P (Chris from Montgomeryville, PA)
8. spotswood_suzuki (Wayne from NJ) -Will jackiei26 be joining you as well?
9. The Antibody (Anti, lol, from Bloomsburg, PA)

11. Dan Wakefield (Rich's old security boss @ the NYS Vets Home, Oxford, NY)

13. Grace King (Bainbridge, NY)
OK I'm taking all day friday to ride down there, and camping out in Kim's back yard (thanks Kim and ur parents!!) AJ is going to meet me there later on that night. Then riding back home on Saturday and AJ will follow me. 8) Cool so I'll have a bike there too.

I will pm you with my cell number... I have no clue where New Milford is, but I'll check out some maps and we will figure out someplace to meet. I'm assuming New Milford is about an hour from Binghamton? I'll do some research and get more info. I was planning to be in Binghamton at the mall by 11:30 or so... so we can leave for the Walmart by noon.
P.S.-Is New Milford in PA or NY?? (Do you have a zip code for New Milford?) Thx!
Is this it Anti?

sorry that i cant make it. i'll be thinking of you all saturday, it's a great thing you guys are doing.
Bingo Jules. It's right on I-81. I would make it easy and meet you in Binghamton, but I want to ride with you all. You can make New Milford a stretch-pit stop. It would be great if we could meet there. Otherwise Binghamton will be fine. Both are about an hour from me. Also, whatever time you want is great.

I wish you all a safe ride.

Sure, we'll make a stop in New Milford for you. I would say plan on being there by 11 am or so, that way we'll still have enough time to get to Binghamton by 11:30-12:00. Just let me know exactly where we should meet you at. I printed off the directions, but don't know what is around there. Maybe we can meet right at the exit ramp off 81? Lemme know.
If you wanna ride longer with us.. would you rather meet us in Wilkes-Barre? Isn't Bloomsburg closer to there for you? Lemme know. :)
OK guys I'm leaving a couple hours, if anyone wants/needs my cell number PM me and I'll fork it over. Otherwise I'll see you guys there!
Sorry - I won't be going tomorrow. Ride safe everyone.
OK I'm off if anyone needs my cell phone number for any reason, Kim has it, and the chat room has it! See you guys there!
Anyone and everyone who is riding from Allentown. New Milford is right on I-81. At the end of the exit ramp there is a gas station called the Pump & Pantry. I will be there no later than 11. Probably more like 10:30 to be safe.
See you all there! Julie has my Cell number.

:thumb:

OK... Just to confirm. I'm heading out from here in Williamsport early tommorrow and will meet the "Allentown Group" at the Mall in Binghamton at Noon. From there we will all go up to the Walmart in Norwich and meet the rest of the riders at about 1:00.
Just wanted to make sure I'm on the same page as everybody since I'll be by myself for the first leg of the trip. :) Julie you have my cell, I'll see you all tommorrow.

Thank you EVERYONE for coming today, it was nice meeting all of you ... despite the rain it was a great day! I couldnt have asked for more and I know Rich appreciates everything. I hope all returned home safely. When everyone gets home please post, I just want to make sure everyone is safe. :)
The plaque and cross were beautiful, THANK YOU SOO MUCH JULIE AND ROB!!! It will give us all a place to go and pay our respects. It is nice to know how many people cared about Rich.
Soon I will be posting a link with all the pictures I took today. I would love to see pictures everyone else took as well.

Well, I just made it home a few minutes ago. I had some "technical difficulties" with my car on the way home, lol, but thanks so much to Chris for being there and helping me out. I owe you big time. (Fill you all in on details later.) :icon_rolleyes:
It was great to meet everyone today. Thank you so much to Rob, Chris, and Kim for everything. I couldn't have done today with you. I also wanted to thank everyone that was there... special thanks to those that rode up (and home) in the rain. I hope everyone made it home safely! I will post pictures sometime soon. I know Rich would be very happy to know so many people cared about him. RIP Rich.

The ride was great. Sometimes I just don't mind getting drenched for the right reason. On the way home rained hard for all of the 3 hours. At the end I felt giddy. I don't know why. After being misrable on the way home, I suddenly was happy to be wet on the bike. I am so happy that I went. I only regret never getting out with Rich. I am sore, but I am so delighted that I could be there. It was also a pleasure to meet Rich's friends and family. Good people. :thumb:
Jules, I didn't even know you were still with Paul and I on the way home. Then when I realized you were, you disapeared. Is that the tech prob.? :dunno_white: sorry. I couldn't see anything, thats why I let Paul in front. He read signs, I followed tail lights. heh heh.

Just got home a few minutes ago.
Tazz, please let your mother know that it was a real joy to meet her. That lunch was very special, I'll never forget it. Kim, it was really nice to meet you and your family. Your dad told me that our ride through town was the first time he ever witness not hitting one red light and felt that Rich was with us. It was really great to meet everyone, I'll post some pics soon, right now I need to get some shut-eye for work tommorrow. Julie, thanks for the ride up, btw, you might want to check your tires tommorrow:-))))))
Chris
8:30pm - soaked to the bone but safe at home, all told about 475mi roundtrip (approx).
i want to thank you all for letting me take part in the memorial ride for Rich. it was very nice to meet the family and friends, to meet some new gstwin-er's and to see familar faces. the rain held off when we reached the memorial site, it was good riding with you all despite the weather.
thanks to the jersey guys, it was a nice pace we set on the ride home - i don't even ride that fast when it's dry out! hope everyone gets home safe. i'm bad like this but i've already forgotten your names.
one thing i will remember, my riding pal Rich. though we've only ridden together at the carlisle ride, i am fortunate to know you.

I'm glad you made it home safely Anthony! I felt bad for you watching you ride in that pouring rain when I was trying to keep up with you and Paul on the way home. Good idea letting Paul take the lead. I thought you were having problems with your bike when I saw you pulled over at that rest area so I wanted to make sure you were ok.
Umm... my tech prob... yeah. :) Let's just say I should learn to check my
car tires before I ride long distance just like I do with my bike tires every time I take it out. :thumb:

Hi everyone,
Got home around 9:45.......long wet ride home, but well worth it :thumb: Total milage was 532 miles....I think that may be getting close to my limit for one day. It was great seeing everyone and meeting Rich's family and loved ones. It was a very special day that I am sure will not be forgotten. Ginoe....glad you enjoyed the pace.....I can only imagine what time we would have gotten home if we had ridden any slower.
Wayne
I got back a little after nine....so it was 124 miles from where I stopped to get gas and eat lunch..in all it was 200 miles...I was soaked to the bone too, but it wasn't bad, I was wringing out my gloves at each stop  It was worth it though, like I was telling Kim I still feel like I'm waiting for his screenname to sign on and IM me with something ridiculous like he always did. It was a wonderful tribute, thanks Rob and Julie for doing such an awesome job. I'm sorry I didnt get to go to the diner and say goodbye to everyone, I had to get home before it got too dark, the way home was all back roads and full of deer. Ive got pictures too, I'll post tomorrow when I'm not exhausted. Kim please thanks I love YOU and dad again for letting me and AJ stay with you and for the meals. I really appreciated it! It was good to meet everyone!
Looks like a wonderful tribute and a great ride.
Just wanted to report in and say I made it. Not to bad for me in the cage, glad to see everybody made it back safe and sound. I also want to thank Julie and Rob for putting this togther. Despite the rain it was a good day.
Paul, Onlypastrana & Wayne, glad to hear you all made it home safe too.
Kim, great pictures! Thx for everything!
Just and F.Y.I for everyone...
Chris and I will be setting up a NE ride sometime soon. We were talking on the way home and since we (and Paul and some others) didn't get to ride our bikes yesterday, we thought it would be a great idea to organize a ride soon so we can all meet up and ride on some good roads. If it rains that day, we will set up a rain date.
Any dates stand out as being good dates to plan this? We don't have details on when or where yet, but I'll start a new thread about it. Just wanted to give everyone a heads up. :thumb:
Here's the new link to the NE GS ride. http://gstwins.com/gsboard/index.php?topic=29579.0
WOW
I arrived home around 9:30 PM with a lake in my boots. Luckly it stopped raining on Wayne and me about 20 minutes after we split with Ginoe on the ride back to NJ. It was quite a day. It was nice to meet some new and GStwiners and Rich's family and friends.
After seeing the site where Rich was taken from us, it is easy to see that even if you ride in control and live life carefully, sometimes it is just your time. So ride, even in the rain, because when its your time at least you will have ridden.

Bike run remembers Richard Christie
By: Jessica Lewis, Sun Staff Writer
Published on: Tuesday, August 22, 2006
(http://www.evesun.com/galleries/edition/2006-08-22/0821biker.jpg)
SHERBURNE – Saturday afternoon, bikers from New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Indiana and California gathered to pay tribute to Richard Christie, a motorcycle enthusiast who was killed on July 1. Two motorcycle runs took place simultaneously to honor Christie; one in Sherburne at the site of the fatal crash, and one in Los Angeles.
Christie left his home for a morning ride on July 1 and never returned. He was hit by another cyclist who broke across the center line on Route 80. Christie, who lived with his mother on Rexford Street in Norwich, had been riding for two years. According to his fiancee, Kimberly Cox, he was always interested in anything with a motor, but Christie did not rush into things. He did a lot of research before buying his motorcycle.
During that time he became involved with the online biking community through the GS Twin website. Christie set up a frequently asked questions page, and quickly became friends with a number of people from the website – many of whom attended the memorial ride for Christie.
Some of the people Christie had met, but several only knew him from the message boards.
"He was the type of person who would treat you like his best friend, even if you only met him once," one rider said.
Christie's brother Robert Buck helped set up the ride in his brother's honor. He described his brother as funny and adventurous. He had enjoyed a lot of things, like skydiving and hot air balloon rides.
"He had such a great personality, that people would just gravitate to him, but to me he was just my little brother," Buck said. "It was the little things that made him the way he was."
Buck read a poem that he wrote, after a large wooden cross and plaque were placed at the site of the accident. Sunday would have marked Christie's 26th birthday.
The death of Christie affected many people, including his fiancee. Cox had known Christie for eight years. She thought he was intelligent, kind, and always willing to help people. She explained how much they meant to each other.
"He was my best friend, and my fiancee. He meant everything to me," Cox said.
According to her, it was Christie's sense of humor that drew people to him.
"He was always ragging on people, but it was just a big joke, and everybody thought he was funny," she said.
Although this has been a difficult for everyone who knew Christie, the presence of so many people who cared about him has made it easier. The members of the GS Twin site have sent flowers to Christie's mother, and made generous donations to Toys for Tots in his name.
"The people from the GS Twin website have gone above and beyond," Buck said.
If there is one thing that Buck hopes people will take from this tragedy, he hopes it is caution.
"I wish more people would take their time and pay attention," he said.
Christie is survived by his mother, Virginia Saladin, his father Howard Christie, brothers Robert and Randy Buck, sister Roxanne Ludlow, and his fiancee Kimberly Cox.

Thanks again to Chris (Chris2P) for being my photographer in the car that day! Great pics you took on the way up! :thumb:
Great pictures everyone!
I can really see why Rich liked going on rides ... its more then just riding. I just wish I would have gotten into it while he was alive. Thank you all again, I cant say it enough!
