Title: You gotta see this!
Post by: Jake D on July 20, 2006, 09:28:06 AM
This is a link to a thread from another message board I visit.  A local KC board.

http://www.kcsbforums.com/forum/showthread.php?t=18003

They guy wants to know if the R6 is a good beginners bike.  Myself and others warn him that it is too much.

Skip to the last page, if you want to see what he ended up getting.

You can lead a noob to water, but you can't make him think.

I have put 4000 miles on my SV this summer and I wouldn't dare step up to a bike like that yet.  What an a-hole.

  On another forum I visit a guy bought a 06 Busa then 2 weeks later took the MSF course.  Been about 4 months no accidents yet.  Odditity ( sp? ) I guess.

Everybody should know that it's better to start off small then move up to a bigger bike, but MOST kid's these days ( anyone younger than 18  ;) ) want to look cool, stand out and don't want to be looked upon as a wimp.  For them I think riding a bike is more of an image thing than anything else.  Ofcourse there are excepts to what I just stated but the majority is about image.

Anyway just rambleing

Not just kids. Have a friend who bought a brand new c50t (Suzuki's touring 800 cc cruiser) probably has 2 hours of highway riding and 2 months of riding experieince and is already talking of getting a 'bigger' bike.  :2guns:

Funny story when we were getting my wife's bike there was a guy in shorts, t-shirt, tennis shoes and a half helmet getting the Suzuki 90T?  The largest fully dressed cruiser.  When he was  trying to put the key in the ignition he pulled the handle bar so hard that it bounced back.  ( the key goes in sideways near the front forks ).  Then he tried to put in it 1st and instead put it in second.  The salesman standing next to him cringed when he pulled the handle bars then said "Ummm you put it in second."

The guy was Ok I got it now.  And started to pull off.  Almost droped it comming out of the parking.

LOL!  i'd kill myself on a 954 fo' sho'.

But i think i'd feel OK (slower and lower) on a large cruiser.  I'll be traveling to WY in September and I'd like to rent a Harley or a BMW cruiser; Trying to get as much seat time as possible before that day.  But it'll be my own judgment call as to whether or not I can handle it.

When I saw that the guy ended up with a 954, I couldn't even respond.

I still haven't responded or posted anything.  I don't know what to say.  I'm totally freakin' speachless.

I like somebody's comment: "Don't fear it, but respect the hell out of it.  The 954 isn't a liter bike, but it's close."

Uhhh. . .   If you mean that it can hang with 90% of all liter bikes ever built, then I agree.

so i took his advice.... haha i bought that cbr 954 today that my friend was asking me about, from a finical stand point it made since but from listening to experince... well sorry guys i am thick headed. i do really like the bike and i am not "a crazy rider" i use my head to know what i think is enough. i learned to drive that way with my TA and it paid off. and i know its a bike and that i still have a lot to learn and any advice other than me selling the bike would be apperaciated. i got the dealer to through in a helmet and i am bidding on icon leather jacket and gloves tonight. thanks for the help guys all though i did not really listen..

"Yeah, I took the restictor plate off the Red Dragon.  Opened up a few more horsepower.  It's not exactly street legal, so keep it on the down low.  'Kay?"

Guy reminds me of my little brother.  Nice enough guy, asks for advice, and then does whatever the hell he wants which is usually dumber than crap. Whenever "Well, I figured...." and "The thing is...." start to come out of his mouth, I'm thinking- what dumb thing did he just do.

Also, that guy had some of the worst spelling and grammer I've ever seen.  Ouch.

I know a guy who has never ridden until this May. Took the MSF course, got his licence, then bought a CBR 929RR (Erion Racing Edition). I saw him around town a few days ago with just a helmet, shorts, and a tshirt. I gave him a hard time earlier this week and he said it was too hot for gear...  :nono: sigh.

It is freakin' hot here.  Like 102 degrees with a 115 degree comfort index (for you people up north, that is like a wind chill, but in reverse).

I have to admit: I've gone half squid (no jacket) the past two rides.

ATGATT for me and I ride to work and back (during the hottest part) everyday.  Us K-Staters must be cut from a thicker clothe than you Mizzou pansies*.  :thumb:

My buddy asked me if I was burning my ass off on the hot seat.  Told him of course not, must be insulated by all those extra dollars I am not spending at the gas station!

*of course, it is for only 20 minutes.

 Thats funny.  Does anyone else get the feeling when people ask for advice but the advice they get is not what they wan't to hear, they start making up excuses and do what they want anyway?

Hate it when people say what bike should I get 98% of the answeres are start small 250-500 if a cruiser then 650.  And then they go and buy the supersport that they KNEW they were going to get before even asking. . . why waste people's time like that?

   What a retard...

But...  There ARE people out there that can ride a big bike and use 5% of it...  But, if he thinks he's gonna pull 25% and live through it, he's kidding himself.

My buddy Jake went straight to an SV650 (not a liter by any means)...  I tried and tried to get him on a smaller bike, but he was dead set.  I wasn't too upset with him 'cause I've seen him drive (like driving Miss Daisy)...

He's had it for a few months and only crashed once. :icon_confused:  But, in his defence some drunk guy jumped into the road, from behind a car, swinging his fists right in front of him...  He didn't hit the guy, but he dropped it going about 15 MPH...  I don't think a smaller bike would have made a difference (although, he wouldn't have been as pissed off if he'd bought it used like I suggested).

Umm.... 954...........

I know a guy who has that as a track bike.

He regrets it becuase of how much he has to work on it.

Least reliable bike he's ever owned he says.

Whatever. I hope he goes stunting and cracks his nads so he can't reproduce.

my bike --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
well guys, the 954 is deffintly to much power for begining. i know, i know you all told me, but i do have a lot of self control when it comes to speed. the bike is awesome, it feels good and is comfortable, and i think its easer to ride than my friends r6. also I my gear is coming in today, icon leather jacket and gloves, and when i bought the bike i got a new hjc helmet. and me and some friends plan to take the msf course in august.
