I finally found the best time to ride in south florida. This morning i woke up at 2 am and i realised i forgot my paper at my parents house (which is about an 1/30 north from here) so i decide to put my gear on and go riding. I was amazed by how empty the streets were, i mean their was construction but their wasnt any traffic (unlike several other places i know of). so i was crusing and for some reason i was wide awake and heat lighting began to stur up in the clouds and it was just plain beutiful. It rained a little but the sky, the weather and the traffic was so nice that it made the 3 hours trip fly by. im thinking of doing it again, exept i wont forget my paper this time. :icon_mrgreen:
so i was wondering those anyone else ride at this hour or am i the only weard one ?
I know a girl from DC that learned to ride in DC riding around late at night
she said a couple other women were out there also
Night would be ideal for me, cooler, less traffic... but, more freaking deer. I'm too far in the sticks.
I was just going to modify my post with a deer comment
drunk drivers worry me too, esp on weekends
I think anyone out riding at that time is going to look suspicious and therefore likely to get pulled by the cops. You couldnt blame them for thinking you may have robbed the bike.
you c that dosent bother because i was in like the zone of being so happy it was amazing. i probably would just be happy knowing that they were doing their job. shaZam! i had a lil conversation with the toll both lady, just to be nice :icon_mrgreen:
um, what is a toll booth?
I haven't gotten a chance to ride on the street yet () but I love driving my car late late at night. Almost no one on the road, it's not as warm..
My and a few friends went to a drive-in movie, two movies for 8 bucks. Ended around 1 am and on the way back I had to girls in my car who have ridden with me plenty of times, but rarely so late. Now, normally, in the daytime and on familiar roads, I fly. I mean I constantly do 80-100 on the highway. So they were kind of amazed when I was doing like 65-70 the whole way back. So I told them:
Daytime is for speeding and racing. Night time is for sitting back and enjoying the ride.
i ride at night once in awhile. its nice out, not to many cars and cool out.
Yeah its fun to ride late at night but its easier for tha cops to spot u speedin where I live

word. I feel ya, except in orlando at 1am 2am you're more likely to get killed by some dumbass college drunkard or pulled over for suspicion of DUI

I don't want to preach, but please stop going 100.

I had a friend who did this as well. I've ridden in DC in the 3-4am hours and it's pretty creepy when you're down by the monuments and the mall. Just empty lanes with tons of traffic lights. And tons of cops. It's nice though.

How the guys in the muscle cars knew when the police wouldn't be around, I haven't a clue, but I never saw them both during the same run.
Perhaps the muscle car drivers were off duty cops
C.
my friend whos a cop street races a muscle car. you can also buy something to get on cops frecuencies
I do this pretty often. Just last night I went out at midnight and enjoyed a two-hour cruise. Other drivers who are regularly out so late don't seem to be in a hurry. I find them to be much more considerate and safe than most drivers that are out during the daytime. I'm not bothered by the (seemingly) increased number of police officers patrolling late at night; in fact, it brings more comfort to me. When I was out last night, I went past a police cruiser hiding in the shadows of an elementary school parking lot with his lights off. It's nice to know that there are several of them out there driving around so that the inevitable drunk drivers, street racers, or generally reckless people can, hopefully, be spotted more quickly. But the fact is that drunk drivers are out even in daylight. One of my former classmates had a drunk driver from opposing traffic swerve into his lane to cause a head-on collision after he and a few friends were going home after school. Thankfully, nobody was seriously hurt. Anyway, I have yet to have any trouble from the police with my late-night rides.
Of course, animals can be a big problem. There was a lone coyote crossing the road last night, but that's about as big as they get out here (though that's not to say that they aren't big enough to get somebody seriously hurt or killed). I don't even want to think about suicidal deer.
Just be careful and enjoy the ride. You are definitely not the only one who is enjoying late-night/early-morning rides. :thumb:
MrDan - where in columbia are you from?
I grew up around there (scaggsville), went to Atholton HS.
i dunno guys a little midnite ride is nice every once in a while but my favorite ride is when me and my buddies all go out at 7.a.m in the morning on sunday and cruise the beach all the way up to cocoa, jump in the ocean, do alittle body suurfin than go home in time for a late lunch around 2.a.m. that is my ride from heaven it is just so calm, plenty of parks to stop for a drink break and just chat for alittle, it really is my paradise.
i am yet to go out on a long ride on my gs because the handles hurt my hands due to the postiion i ride, so i usualy take the marauder and cruise al the way up, though it would be nice if the bike was alittle more quite sometimes i regret getting those drag muf's put on.

I grew up in Dorsey Hall (29/108/100). I went to Loyola Blakefield in Towson but would have gone to Centennial. Most recently, I was living off Harpers Farm about a miles from the mall.

I blow through that area all the time on my bike... sometimes on the way to the Mall, more often on my way to that hidden Starbucks off of Dobbin.
Did you ever see my response on the "routes" thread?
That's a great starbucks - I used to chill there sometimes.
I printed out your routes .. I'll take a gander next time I can get up there on my bike :)
I'm gonna toss a vote for early sunday morning. Not much traffic but not too many cops.
