Title: Backfart'n
Post by: flyingbeagle71 on July 20, 2006, 12:22:22 PM
My bike is starting to backfire like crazy.  Any time I shut down the throttle abruptly, it starts popping.  Mostly while accelerating, during shifting.  Any ideas?  What causes backfires?  Are there different types of backfires?  Are backfires bad for my little GS?

Backfiring is caused by unburned fuel entering the exhaust and igniting.  It's typically caused by running rich.  It's usually not bad, but it can blow the exhaust off.
