what's the max weight a gs500 can handle without messing up the rear springs or any other parts?
The stock suspension kinda sucks... So, it's a hard question to answer.
It might be easier to find out how heavier people think the bike rides... I can't imagine that you could mess up the springs.... Even 2up...
If you're planning on carrying TONS of gear, there's a pic of davipu with his GS loaded to the gills with gear (but, I'm too lazy to find it).

That would be my bike (http://gstwins.com/gsboard/index.php?topic=20672.msg194844#msg194844).
There's one where he has MORE gear than that! :o :o It looks soooooo funny.
Just make sure you have the "No Fat Chicks" warning sign where it can be seen you you should be fine.
I am sure the number is in the owner manual, if anyone actually has one.
i'm about 230 and it does fine, how much we talking here?
The GVWR for the 97 GS500E is 845# with 33 psi front and 41 psi rear tire pressure. It weighs about 420# or so wet which leaves a rated load capacity of over 400#.
I weighed about 240# when I bought the first one and am about 250# or so now. Neither GS has ever complained about the load. :thumb:
The GVWR should be on a decal on the bike somewhere if it hasn't been removed.
good, i'm 240 :icon_mrgreen:
I'm good at 320.
African or European ? :icon_lol:
The Baby G carries "fat chicks" around just fine! He carried me! :icon_twisted: I <3 the Baby G! :kiss3:
Oh yeah pandy, you're SOOO fat. I saw you in the pics. (Oh BTW you suck at cropping.)
I think my gear outweighs you.

HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!!! Oh, you're darling, and an excellent liar (except about the cropping part..you're right about that :P), and feel free to lie whenever. I like your lies......
I'm 205lbs...
I needed to set the rear preload to 7 (the highest)
But when I hit a pothole last friday, the rear rim was destoyed.
I think the PO lowered the bike a bit, so that might have something to do with it.

I load the GS with 322 pounds of raw meat :o and it has no problems to keep up with traffic at 80mph :thumb: (of course, that weight is riding 2-up all geared up)
