Title: No MSF for me
Post by: Unnamed on July 21, 2006, 02:56:45 PM
Man, I've been so excited for my MSF course for so long. I signed up 4 months ago and I've been counting down the days. I read every thread I could find on the internet describing an MSF class. I read the MSF booklet cover to cover a number of times and I've pretty much memorized it. It was going to be this weekend, long days but get my class done in just a weekend. Then, 30 minutes before I was going to leave, I got a call from a friend, who got a call from the people who run the program in Illinois. The location where it was scheduled, a Caterpillar plant, decided to resurface their parking lot this weekend. So, suddenly, the long awaited class is cancelled. I called the office in charge and talked to a nice woman who said "we can reschedule you for a later class (all of which are full and have waitlists already) or we can refund your money." I was polite to her, but it took a lot of self control. I said that I was not going to be in town for the next two weekends, and after that I was heading back to school (in New York, pretty f%$king far away). So I'm getting my $20 back (state subsidizes it).

Theres no chance I'd be able to take one in NY. My expense planning counted on a free MSF, and any money that would have been available for it went into riding gear. Not that it would have mattered, since my semester is packed with classes, the swim team, my honors thesis, and an LSAT class. So far I've put 70 miles onto my GS (with no license, yeah I know), half of which are back and forth on about half of my block, half of which are from riding around town (during low traffic times like sunday morning, at least I'm that smart). As soon as it stops f%$king raining I'm going to ride around a little more, run through my low speed maneuvers again, and go to the goddamn DMV and pass my f%$king license test. I'm not going to miss any questions on the written section, and I'll be damned if they think a swerve test or a U turn is going to throw me. I'm sick of worrying about riding without a license, so I'm going to go f%$king get one. Maybe something will turn up and I'll be able to take the class before next summer. Maybe nothing will. Right now I'm furious about this crap, so I'm going to go drink until I'm either not angry anymore or asleep.

Dude I love people.

I love to watch them injure themselves horribly.

Sorry for ya on the MSF. Try not to kill them all, but if you do decide to make sure google video has it so I can watch the agony of the morons.

Sorry to hear that.  Hope something good turns up for you, like...someone may drop out of one of next week's class and you could be a standby (stand-in?).

There's a saying:

If you can't get laid, get drunk
If you can't get drunk, get in a fight.

Usually, you can't get past the second one.

Hope yo feel better.

mmmm that sucks  :dunno_white:

here in MA I was able to sign up only a week in advance, as there were still plenty of spots listed as open online. It was a pretty big group though; about 30 split into smaller riding groups of 6.

a great book to read is "Proficient Motorcycling" which can be found at any Borders/ Barnes & Nobles. It actually explains the reasons behind what they teach you at the MSF, and so much more...

If anyone knows who the author is please chime in.

Hey, unnamed, save yourself some money by not taking the LSAT class and take the MSF instead.

Seriously... LSAT classes are a waste of money unless you're a really poor test-taker, and if that's the case you shouldn't go to law school anyway. Buy the practise tests and study from those on your own and do MSF with the time and money.

You are my idol.  You are taking a crap, and still manage to post on the 'twins.  When I'm taking a crap I'm so focused I could never manage to type.....Hell, I had to put in one of those handicap bathroom handle things just so I had something to brace myself on.

Takes years of practice. I remember when the first consumer 802.11 stuff came out, the first thing i did was IM all my friends while on the throne.
