Title: Does anyone hear use AutoCAD?
Post by: annguyen1981 on July 21, 2006, 06:14:46 PM
I need help making a display with 3D looking dominos.

Six to be exact.  The second domino from the left needs to be leaning about 60 degrees from the "floor", and the first piece on the left needs to be leaned over enough to be touching the second.

Any help???

No help?  No problem...  I figured it out if anyone cares.

Now if I can figure out how to put the little dots on the four pieces on the right-side...

create the dots as objects same as the boxes.

I have been using AutoCAD for over 15 years. Since I have started using SolidWorks and Catia, I have really started disliking the program...especially when working in any 3D type environment.

I prefer to use 3D Studio Max, but the versions I have won't work with WinXP...

Besides...  I don't need any 3D effects (shadows, lighting, etc...)  Just the wire frame like above.

The little dots need to be little ovals, but I can't figure out the sizing and rotation angle

mmm, that projection seems a bit off. It is not really a regular perspective, nor orthographic (angle of projection is off)...
I think I can do that in Wings3D in a snap. hold a minute.

ok, here's a quick attempt a this using both perspective and orto projection

I did not bother with lightning or fancy edges as you suggested

I LOVE YOU CALAMARI!!!

The second is great!  If you can make the dominos numbered in sequential order, and get me a tiff file, I'd hump you FOREVER!!!  j/k

Anyway...  If you can make the first domino on the left as a 1:1
Second domino 2:2
Third 3:3
and so on ...

I know the first you won't see it clearly, but based on the image you made, it's good enough.

Also, it looks like the program is free.  How difficult is it to learn?  I've just downloaded it, but haven't had time to install and play yet.

like this?

you can convert that PNG to tiff with any program, but you can also download it from here:

http://www.megaupload.com/?d=XVO6JBQ2

And yes, Wings3D is free and fairly easy to learn. Is classified as a 3D polygonal modelling tools more than anything else. I have much fun with it making models and stuff.. such as this one I made a while ago (for realtime 3d engine, but not textured yet):

Or this old prop I never used (before texture and textured once inside the game engine):

Metallic5spd - How do you create 3D stuff?  I've tried but since I haven't used AutoCAD since highschool (8 years ago), I'm "a little" rusty.

3D in autocad i dont do, i use CAD for 2D and Inventor for 3D, i was taught 3D in CAD, but i havent done it lately, the guy after you posted he uses CAD all the time, he might know...  sorry man!
