so, i'm going to the vintage days at the mid ohio sports car course, anybody been? things i should take/ see/ expect to deal with? ect.just kinda curious, i'd like to go into this prepared to some limited degree. any advice would as usual be awesome.
expect to see some old stuff? :icon_rolleyes:
yeah, i kinda planned on that.
I'm kind of in the same boat, Church. I am heading there for the Honda Super Cycle Weekend, Aug 4-6. I have never been to the track. I have been to NASCAR races so I am preparing myself the same way. Cooler of beer, snack stuff, and sandwhiches and of course the digital camera. :)
Me and my dad went to vintage days last year and mainly looked at the swap meet because at that time I wanted an old bike (this was before I found the GS that I would eventualy buy in the local paper). I Didn't really see much racing though. I am not going to this particular event but I will be riding there for the AMA race in September. Is anyone else going to this?
i'm slow on the reply, but yes, heading up there today, taking camera and a few parts i no longer need (dented late 90's ninja 600 tank, good late 90's ninja 600 forks and triple clamps, ninja 500 chin fairing) if i get around to it i plan to drag thoes parts into the swap meet abd see what i can get.
but i'm mostly excited to see some vintage mv agusta bikes, and maybe some not too vintage ones too (pleeze let an f4 1000 be there!)
it should be cool, if i get around to it i'll try to post pics.
btw sold my gs to a friend of mine, he may pop up on the forum, nobody give him too hard of a time.
I went to a vintage bike show this summer. There were ton's of beautiful old Ducs and Moto Guzzi's. Basket case to fully restored. It was hot as a well diggers ass, though. I forgot my camera too. Looking at bikes in the parking lot was just as fun.
What kind of bike did you get since you sold the GS? What is your friend's name?
my friend's real name is will, his online name? no idea. the new sled, and i call it a sled because it will mostly be old drag bike parts. will be a 1980 to 1983 gs1100e.
the long and the short of it is that i have a friend who drag races (at a track) something to the tune of 7.6 ish at 160 ish in the quarter. my details are sketchy.
and he has a few old frames, old engines, and other spare drag parts he needs to get rid of.
i'm hoping to have a bike that is part street fighter, part drag, and all mine.
tomorrow after work i'm heading to his place to plop down the cash and pick out my parts (he has a ton of stuff, insane).
i'm gonna take pics, post them when i can.
if i have my way it will be a 1983 frame, 1990 ish gsxr 750 front end, 6 over swing arm. ballenced engine (but otherwise stock internals), i forget which carbs he has lying abound, some kind of smoothbore, vance and hines full exhaust, widened rear rim, ect ect...
should be cool, i'll keep in touch, afgter all, it is still a gs.
and btw, vintage days was really cool, all kinds of mv agusta bikes there, if i had showed up at the right time ducati and mv agusta were having demo rides, as i was arriving about 12 F4 1000's were heading out for a demo run. bernelli had a tent, triumph had a tent, and there was a big tent for old mv agustas.
as far as the racing, mostly vintage bikes, a few classes of newer bikes, and perhaps one of my newest favorite things, sidecar racing.
sidecar racing is insane, i highly reccomend going to see it.
advice for anyone going, arrive early, bring sunscreen, and your own food and water. one hotdog, one brat, and four 20 oz bottles of water was almost $18. kinda steep in my mind.
all in all, an execelent time.
For those who don't know about sidecar racing, these pics should explain how freakin' awesome it is:

Likewise. I'm limber enough to pull it off, too.
What happens when you want to turn right? :dunno_white:

You should take your bike and head over to Mansfield after the race Saturday.... Really big bike night there.... really big.... They block off like a mile fo the street for it...
in six months or so i'll be back in the mansfield, newark or colombus area, with my bike. i'll have to get ahold of some gstwinnners and go riding.
