This maybe a dumb question but i'm asking anyway..Is the 2001 gs500 a bit of a dog? I picked mine up last summer, I had an 86' yamaha 600 that would pick up the front end alomst with out trying, but the gs just will not even come close, not that i really need to :icon_rolleyes: but it just seems really doggish in comparison.
I was thinking about rejetting and getting a K&N Drop in or lunchbox but wanted to get some opininion's first as to if that's the normal behavior prior to the mod's.
thanks.
Not a dumb question, just an uninformed question.
1)Your GS has at least 100cc less displacment than the nonspecific mid 80's Yamaha you mention.
2)Your GS is NOT a torque pump and the engine hasn't changed radically since 1989.
3)Search for "Wheelie" -- I know this has been discussed before.
4)Most GS owners don't try to stunt with a GS. They have a torque pump bike for that stuff.
5)Stunters usually just run up the insurance rates for eveyone else AND they usually have no regard for fine engineering (late model I4 bikes are very nice machines). They were probably the kind of kids who busted things because it seemed like a good idea at the time. They usually don't understand the concept of "Cause and Effect" OR they don't believe it applies to them.
6)Ride safe. You aren't one of those kids in #5 above are you?
BTW, Welcome to GSTwin. :)
Welcome!
Yep, it's a '77 engine design and
It's not a 600cc inline four.
Also, do you know if the Radien had stock gearing?
I'm guessing it had a larger rear sprocket or a smaller front sprocket.
welcome!! if your going to stunt just please do it in a back alley. know you can get a 14th tooth sprocket talk to alpha for that one. :thumb:
exaust: you have ixil slip on, vance and hines full system and sinraths flanges.
Yeah, it's slow. Don't waste money trying to make it faster either (other than a gearing change), just buy a ratted out 4 cyl crotch rocket if you want to go faster. The one good thing about riding a slow bike, it that you get good at cornering because that's the only way to keep up with your buddies.

that's the answer I was looking for.
And thanks everyone for their perspective. I don't do alot in the way of stunts or screwin around, actually i'm pretty conservative by most standards, but i do like to show off evreyonce in awhile.
I really enjoy the gs as is but there's always that little :icon_twisted: wanting to show off.
thanks again
