Title: Bolts falling off GS on a daily basis!
Post by: mike_mike on July 23, 2006, 12:59:39 PM
On my 2005 GS i'm loosing bolts daily - i check them all the time now, and i always seem to be loosing bolts!

do you think the GS warranty would replace any bolts?
Where can i buy replacement bolts for the GS - does anyone have suzuki part numbers?

Which bolts are you looosing exactly?

Are these bolts laying on the ground after the bike has been parked or are you finding items that are supposed to be fastened to the bike now flopping around because of missing bolts?

If the bolts are torqued to specification properly, they should not fall out.

Which bolts are you referring to? Any of the online sellers have part numbers for the hardware on the GS.

Do you have enemies (or prankster friends) that are messing with your bike when you are not looking?

Geez, that is crazy! Does your bike have "excessive" vibration? I've never had anything just "fall off". Yes, I would demand that the dealership eat any costs and I'd probably write Suzuki as well.

the bike runs perfectly. maybe it doesn't like being ridden at the higher RPMs else bolts start flying off
I've rejetted it, added progressive springs, and chopped the rear fender at the bottom of the licence plate

How about some blue lock-tite?

Lock-Tite. Blue stuff so you can take it apart if you need to.

I got some really cheap locktite called "tighten" and it has kept bolts from rattling loose, but it's so weak that you hardly notice it's there when you take stufr apart, so I would recomend that. Also some bolts can have lockwashers placed under them and some nuts can be replaced with nylock. I also safety wire most of the real important bits like brakes oil drain plug, etc.

I've lost a few things here and there.  The only thing I ever bothered replacing was the trim odo knob.  I was so pissed that it fell off that I used red Loctite when I put the new one on.  It came out without too much effort the other day when I had to mess with my gauges :thumb:

Holy, I've lost a few of the same...

1 bolt holding the rear fender to the frame (under the headlight)
1 bolt holding in the battery box
1 bolt holding the fairing (Left side)
1 of those little push clip things holding the fairing (Left side)
1 bolt holding the chain guard on

LOL these really start to add up.

The stock bar ends kept falling off on my 05.

Another reason to make sure your carbs are balanced at least every 8000 miles (2 oil changes).

I would change my oil a dozen times by 8000 miles

I've lost 3 of the chrome allen bolts off my '04's fairing and they average $8 a piece from my local Suzuki extortionist.  I used the red Lock-tite and haven't a single one since.  My brother said I was nuts using the red instead of the blue but I've loosened/removed them since with no problems.

Speaking of those allen fairing bolts... I think someone has been stealing mine! I lost one last week so I tightened them up and now I'm down another one!
