Title: cleaning the carbs on a 2006 model how hard is it
Post by: deathlucky on July 24, 2006, 02:48:59 AM
hi

so i have got a gs500f 2006 model as you all know and it seams to be lacking abit of power and seams to be using alot more fuel then normal it has 16,000km on it

so how hard is it?
what will i need?
is it easy to brake?
how long will it take?
what parts do i need to clean?
what do i clean it with?
is there a carb cleaning movie out? (fingers crossed)

thank you

Lacking a bit of power is normal, it's a GS500 under all those pastics.  As for fuel consumption, did you rejet it or change a sprocket or anything?  Those things will cause a decrease in fuel mileage.

So I'm guessing it runs.  Before you go taking things apart, try adding a bottle of methanol/rubbing alcohol/carb cleaner to a full tank of gas.  That should clean most of the crap out of there.

Any autoparts store. Try the stuff called seafoam.. supposedly works pretty well

I doubt your 2006 bike has dirty carbs if you have 16k on it

but bad gas could cause probs

try draining the carbs and see if any rusty brown crud comes out?

what is your fuel economy
and the "power of a wet fart" is normal

The butt dyno likes snake oil.....

I did it on mine, and being as they haven't changed much I'd say yours will be the same.

Just don't lose any parts (like the itty bitty o-rings I did) and you'll be fine.

Oh yeah, pretty easy, just give yourself like 4 hours or so.
