Dudes, I'm looking to mount some serious rubber and a wider rim/swing arm on the back of my GS500. I see on the GS500 site a guy adapted components from a 1200 Bandit. I'm just wondering if anyone knows of any other applications that have been tried and/or what all is involved with such a mod. I'm not afraid of experimenting and fabricating (I just built a homemade custom-built underengine muffler/exhaust box for my '04 GS500 which completely eliminated the huge right-side exhaust with no noticeable change in performance while giving the bike a throaty/growly tone). Appreciate any info, Scott
Without CRAPLOADS of work, the widest you're gonna get is a 150...
How supersize are you trying to get?
There was a recent post about switching out the wheel and adding a wider tire... I'll search and see if I can find it.

160 wheel that didn't work out: http://gstwins.com/gsboard/index.php?topic=27304.0
buy a 98-up kat 600/750 4.5 x 17 rim
buy a same ^ rear rotor
buy a same ^ caliper mount
take off the GS stuff
install the KAT stuff....150 tire mounts up purty
rear wheel will now be a straight spoke design
front will be curves spoke....deal with it
Can we see pics of your exhaust?
As for how supersized I'm wanting.....how much can I get? If the stock rim is 4.5 inches, a new rim of 6.5 inches would be worth my time/trouble.
As for the exhaust I'm working on a new/improved second generation. As soon as I get the design where I want it I'll send it to the GS500 page with all the pics and instructions I can get.

4.5" is the Kat wheel, not the stock GS wheel. With the 4.5" wheel, you can mount upto a 150. To go any wider, you run into serious clearance issues with the swing arm, rear brake arm, and the chain. Do you really want wider? Why do you need wider?
A 150 is more than enough to handle the amount of power you'll ever put down, and the only reason people use the larger tire is because better rubber is availble at that size. And you do know a bigger tire will cause it to handle more sluggishly right?
It just seems to me it's not worth all the work and fabbing on critical components for some big ugly wheel that makes the bike handle worse, but that's just me...
