Title: National Cycle Windshield F15 or F16?
Post by: th79gs on July 27, 2006, 09:07:04 PM
I am in need of a windshield.  I read through some of the threads on this forum and Im leaning towards the National Cycle F15 or F16.  I was wondering which windshield would provide better protection.  If you have any experience w/ any of these, please post.  Also, was installation a cinch?  Thanks in advance.  I wont be riding in the rain or anything so i dont need the big plexi.

I have an F-16 (I think.. the sportier, smaller one)... installation is simple.. 10 minutes, if you're slow. I love it, I took it off, cuz I like the naked look.. but after I went on the interstate, I'm putting it back on for my long 8 hour interstate rides, or my 3 hour ride tomorrow. Simple enough that I don't mind swapping it off and on. I think the F-15 is the bigger one, more for touring than sport riding.. so it'll look honkin huge, but provide more wind protection. That's just what I recall off the top of my head though.

i just picked up a 16 from someone on theboard. It really doesn't do too much at the local speeds I ride at, though haven't been on the interstate with it yet.  it also mnimally helps with the indicator lights in day light, if going towards the sun.

Instal was ridiculously easy :)

I have a 05' GS500F, i noticed that the windshield doesn't appear to be on straight.  i see that there are 3 screws on the front ferring on the outside of the bike (cheapie plastic type screws) and then on 2 normal metal screws on the inside.  i'd like to remove the windshied and put it back on to get it straight again.  Are these the only screws that need removed to remove and re-install the windshield?

Thanx

I don't really know, since I have a naked bike. But you'll get more responses if you post this in your own thread, with a different title, instead of jacking someone else's thread. Most people who have the F won't even notice this post. I think there's info on that topic on the forum, you could try a search for "F windshield removal" or something like that. If no luck, start a new thread, more people will be able to help you that way.

I had the F16. You can see it a little in this thread ...

I was suprised that it didn't give much wind protection. Ok, not really any at all unless I ducked down behind it. I didn't believe it was worth keeping because I like the naked look, and the benefits didn't outweigh the look. Thats make sense?  Yeah.

05 remove the 3 on the outside.  Loosen the mirrors the screen should come out after that.

I have the F-18 on my '98 and like NGFL said they are very simple install.  The F-18 has a lot lower profile and is a "double bubble".   I think it is maybe 10 inches high.  I got it more for the look than the actual protection.

I was riding a little earlier and this leaf was gunning for me, but then it hit the left of my F16, and bounced around me.
