Title: carb cleaning/jetting/rebuilding/fixin' RANT!!!!!
Post by: werase643 on July 28, 2006, 04:47:04 PM
IF IT IS SOOOOO EASY......WHY DO SO MANY PEOPLE F*CK IT UP SO BAD

i am trying to build one set from 3!!!!!!!

there is sh!t screwed up that I cant figure how to break it in that mannor

how do you break the plastic tops of the carbs??????
how(WHY)  do you bend the needles?
why try to take out the air jets.....they never clog.....

NOTE to the newbies....IF you have NO clue....take it to a friend...(on site) and have them help/show you

I'd bet 90% of problems are directly or indirectly related to some dumbass ripping into the carbs thinking they have a CLUE..... :icon_rolleyes:

todays adventure included a new engine from e-bay, new swing arm, new rear tire (needs a rim-flat spot), rebuild the inst cluster, replace the hacked on wiring harness, replaced the hacked on rear fender, replaced the hacked on tail light bracket, relaced the hacked on tail light, replaced and modified the rear shock/linkage for 95 gsxr750 shock, and started taking the front end apart

wife made me come up for dinner

we got it running...but i'm probably gunna have to take the third set of carbs apart for the bodies and try again
did I mention the the carbs were seriously operated on by prev own.....with a hammer i would guess

and the third set has the vac caps on backwards....so they come with a VAC leak....and it was suppose to be a running engine from e-bay.....

good thing was valves in spec, compression was 150/158 COLD!!!!!!!  should be 180-190 hot SCHWEET!!!!!!

beer sounds good.

Air jets have clogged, but I have chased them with a Jet cleaner or welding gas nozzle cleaner ... They cog when Idiot wreckers toss them in the beautiful SC mud ... or someone's carbs floats are so high, they fill the air box with gas and these are on the bottom ... and they take in gas and dry out and repeat ... till its clogged.
Needle bend, Plastic top breaks etc ... OK rare but seen tops busted by poor handling at wreckers.
BTW I am sure I have 2-3 of those sitting about ( tops and needles ) needles are harder, I sold a bunch ... tops ... hardly sold 1-2 ... should have like 30 ... but hey Then maybe I find ... 1 ...  :o
Cool.

Dude, I am slowly ceasing to be amazed by morons' stupidity.

Here's how you go about it if you don't know.

Take everything apart, note where it all goes.

Remove rubber parts and hose with carb cleaner.

Reassemble.

DO NOT USE A f%$king HAMMER.

Engine repair is sort of like swimming.

And Confucius say "You can't learn how to swim without first getting into pool"

We've all had our first time, and some of us take to it right away, and some flap around and gasp for air, its just a shame that

repair manuals don't come with a set of these.

And as aways, thank you to all you Lifegaurds out there!

roped in...glutton for punishment

the FZR sits waiting for owner to find a float needle....used/new.......

the gs got an engine on thurs and it was to be swapped in on fri....quickly
after the body came off....the ugly started to show
at noon it was a bare frame with a set of forks on it clamped into the bench
at 5 ish it was back together running good for sh!t....hence having the need to dissassemble the third set of carbs...the ones i robbed parts from to fix the first set(built from the first/second /3rd set)

well carb set # 3.....
another plastic top cap broke and cracked
and the other cap was installed backwards....
so one slide wouldn't raise and the other one had a vac leak into the body......

well, horsey is now running
still need
air filter(lunchbox on the way)
choke cable
fuel line and filter
some kind of tag bracket
check a couple of wires and sync the carbs

things replaced
3rd set of carbs
engine
complete harness
one coil
exhaust....custom D&D on there now
replaced fork oil cleaned forks
replaced the swingarm
gsxr 750 shock...my last gsxr 750 shock
new tires
new rear t/s
new SV headlight/bucket
new front brake system with SS line
fresh brake fluid
custom cheeze grater clutch cover
some other rear pegs/brackets for pass
pass pegs swapped for rider pegs

i worked on the 1st set of carb bodies....i think i can save them....i finally got the stuck and boogered pilot jet out

3 sets of carbs to make a good one, and a bad motor on that bike - OK its official - your luck is worse than mine. What exactly was the matter with that old motor.
BTW GR motor - you want ??? I'll tell ya where it is. I already did right.
Cool.

I have heard about them BREAKING on their own (supposedly from vibration), so maybe that was the Reason.
