Title: Do you Tankpad?

I'm getting lots of surface scratches on my gas tank.

How many people are using a stick on tank pad on their GS?

my jacket i'd think, they're not huge scratches or anything, but it looks like there is a bit of wear there now. I've washed and waxed the area, i think i'll have to claybar it to remove the marks.

I had one for a little while but I took it off. It doesn't serve any real purpose on the GS, because you don't lean forward enough to rub your zipper on the tank. I don't anyways. And after a bit I thought it looked kinda tacky. That's just me though.

I has a little stick on one to protect my tank from my zipper, but then I started getting some scratches on the sides from my knees and the magnents on my tankbag. I found a good deal on a fake leather bra/pad suposedly from suzuki that covers the rear half of the tank. It looks alright but it really dose a good jub of protecting the paint.

that's what i was thinking. I went and looked at them today but the placement wouldn't make a difference on the GS becuase you don't lean foreward, like you said.

I have one on, it's a bright yellow one that's for a gsxr that came with the bike.  I don't really know the best way to take it off if i wanted to, where I live now, there's no easy way to heat it up and take it off.

lmao

When riding on the highway I lean as far forward as I can to reducke wind effects ( wind blowing the bike around), that has scratched my tank abit but still no tank pad, can't find a blue / white one that I really like.

I have the carbon one that looks like a back bone. looks pretty cool and it protects well from the zipper when I lean forward quite a bit on highway. You can find some on ebay pretty cheap.

My tank is all scratched to hell, too. I would put a tank pad on there but I just can't seem to find one that I really like. All of the cool ones have either Hayabusa or GSXR all over them and that's no good to me. :(

I have to lean forward alot and if I'm wearing a jacket, that's what usually scratches the tank is the heavy nylon or if I'm wearing the leather jacket, the metal buckle that tightens up the waist. The only real way I can feel comfortable is to sit as close to the tank as possible so as to reduce the amount of leaning I have to do which in turn reduces the stress on my arms.

My husband uses clear packing tape on his 919, just in the area where his zipper could hit the tank.

I don't on my GS, and don't seem to have a problem with the scratching either...

Tankpads are a good idea for sport bikes IMO.  Belt buckles and jacket zippers can really do a number on the tank.  My GS had a tank bra, which was nice, except that there was a scratch or two underneath of it, which I suspect rusted a bit faster because the bra actually trapped moisture under it when I rode in the rain.

I say go with an adhesive tank pad.  They are cheap and and only make the bike look prettier IMO.

I put a tank bra on mine, I was getting scratches on the sides of the tank and on the part where my jacket hits it (if you have sm1 or sm2 bars you might get scratches from your jacket).
