Title: What seat mods are there?
Post by: CirclesCenter on July 30, 2006, 10:27:10 PM
Ok, my seat is going to get SOMETHING done to it.

I've had it with this evil little shaZam!. It hates me, it hates my butt.

BTW what cruel bastard designed it? I mean WTF was he thinking? Was it his first seat ever? How did this get through the pipes into the consumer market?

Most of all WTF?

So, in order of cost (cheapest first, cause I'm a poor college kid LOL) what in heck can I do about this evil monstrosity on my bike?

I have no problems with the seat, I've spent a few days of full riding & my butts been fine.

So either you're all a pack of pussies or I've got an iron butt  :flipoff:

Ow, I don't know what 400+ pounds translates to, but I'm sure it's painful.

Like 500 bucks?

Damn....

Little out of my price range (okay a lot out of my price range.)

I was poking around and face planted into this.

Being as I don't need to lower it I could cram like 3 of those gel thingies in there.

http://www.itrocks.com/motorcycles/gel_seat.htm

But I don't feel very confident doing it.

just try a sheep skin seat cover I have one for my GS although I dont usually use it because I find the seat just fine but on my last bike which was like sitting on a fence post it worked wonders for that and allowed me about an extra hour on the seat :thumb:

lol. I have never done a stand up before. I've stopped doing wheelies lately too. They got boring after a few weeks.

Corbin still makes seats and I've heard nothing but good things about them, but they cost $300 so that's probally not what you're looking for.

why don't you buy a second hand seat off ebay, and then try to find one of those gel cushins that people use when they have piles, remove the gel from that, pull out the staples from the new gs seat, sculpt the inner foam stick in the bit of gel and then get the seat stapled back up.
that shouldn't cost more than $50 including a new seat.

Hmmmz, that's kind of what I'm planning. But WTF do you mean by "when people have piles" either I woke up roo early, or I'm just dumb.

piles..Piles, or haemorrhoids, are areas in the anal canal where the tissue, which contains lots of blood vessels, has become swollen.
you know sores on there arse, didnt your teachers at school ever say don't sit on the cold concrete or you will get piles. :icon_mrgreen:
http://www.wheelchairparts.com/pad.html some thing like the 6th cushion down.
hope that helps

i agree on the seat thing,, since it is a crotch rocket style (my GSF) bike it purposely pushes you forward on the bars for control. its really not a rocket so i dont see the need for an aggresive stance. so heres what im doing, i purchased a used seat on ebay cheap, i cut the center out of it where it rises towards the back and im going to cut the inner fender as well. then im going to reshape the seat flater and longer back, and recover with a gel pad, foam. BTW i get my gel pads from a kayak shop there quite large and only cost $35 or so.

Sewing machines are great for that shaZam!...  Get the right needle, thread, and setting on the machine...  Zoom Zip...

I love YOU, g-mom, sister, GF, GF's mom, etc should have one...  Someone somewhere always has one...  You just have to ask everyone you know.

Here's one link on a how to just would have to added a gel pad after shaving the seat also has links for popular seat manufacturing co's

http://www.motorcyclistonline.com/howto/cut_motorcycle_seats/

Also check any local shops that will add padding to your seat.  Or your local appolser ( spelling is wrong ) but they sometimes will do it.
