Maybe these will help: http://www.neuticles.com/index1.html
As for the original question, is it possible the previous owner was short and took off some foam from the lowest part of the seat? Maybe that's why you feel the seat pushing you into the tank?
With pre-'01 GSs, you can get a Corbin seat for $299: http://www.corbin.com/suzuki/gs500e.shtml (http://www.corbin.com/suzuki/gs500e.shtml)
You can also try to re-foam and cover the seat yourself... You might think about picking up another seat and messing with that one, rather than screwing with your current seat. That way you can keep riding while you get it right and sell your current stock seat when you're done. Search around on the Internet for types of foam, covers, tips, etc.
If you get good at it, then you can make $$ on the side fixing up other people's seats. ;)
i feel for ya,
i don't have the little bit of padding at the front to cushion mine, plus the rear end is lifted and that doesn't help matters either :icon_mrgreen:
pay $300 or adjust yourself when you hop on the bike, and hope nothing gets in the way when you slide forward :icon_mrgreen:
