I just got my insurace renewal statement from progressive. I should preface this with the fact that im 24 years old, live in PA, the GS is my first bike, and I've had the bike for one year now.
My insurance premium was $750 for 12 months of full coverage, now it is $225 for 12 months of full coverage. That is awesome, but makes me wonder why such a big drop? anyone who has been riding for over a year notice this sort of drop? I'd call progressive and ask, but its not the sort of thing you want to call and complain about.
I wouldn't complain either! :cookoo: But I would very carefully check my policy and make sure that it's still the coverage I want. I think some of the insurance companies have an age where they think people get less crazy, usually around 25, I believe. Perhaps since you're turning 25 soon, they dropped your rate?
Anyhow, congrats! More $ for the Baby G!!! :icon_mrgreen:
Can I borrow some of the money you're saving?
I started with Progressive with my GS when I was 23. I was payin through the nose, but on my next renewal the bottom fell out of my premium. In fact, when I got my TL, I was still paying less in insurance for it then when I started with the GS.
The exact same thing happened to me.
Single Male 20 when I got the bike, 21 now. I live in San Antonio, Tx and this is my first bike also
I have progressive also and by premium for my first year (liability only) was 123 per year. I just renewed in June and it was a big 88 dollars for this year. YES!!

When I first got my TLR, full coverage was only something like $400/year but a GSXR was around $1600. This was with a totalled wreck. I payed cash for the TLR but still had full coverage. About 3 years latter they figured it out and jacked it up to $1200/year. Then I dropped to liability. It has to do with the first digits of the VIN are different. I remember the TL's start with JS1VT.
Progressive seems strangely cheap relative to other companies. I just bought a policy for $80 a year with pretty substantial liability and uninsured motorists protection, and I'm only 22 with a few weeks of riding time.
I know once you reach 25 insurance rates drop BIG TIME! :thumb: Your credit score and age have more to do w/ insurace than your driving record :thumb:
I paided $367 for full coverage on my '04F in MI last year. Perfect driving record and credit score. 34 year old. Seemed high to me, but it's my first year with Progressive. Maybe they discount after the first year.
Did anyone get a discount for taking MSF Basic??? I didn't, they didn't even offer it...

Note: 19, 1 year riding, Dairyland County Mutual Insurance Company, a division of Sentry.
I got a 10% discount for taking the MSF BRC. I also got a "Winter Discount" meaning they dropped my rates for staying with them for the whole year. From $175/year to $145/year, minimum liability.
I have Progressive too. I live in Michigan and my premium dropped from $400 to $261 after the first year. There must be some stats that say if you make it past the first year without an accident or claim, you're less of a risk.
i went from 4,000 to 311 a year with progressive. (i didnt pay that of course) but the only thing that has changed is my credit score.

:o $4000??? as in 4K??? Good god, what where they doing, buying you a new bike every year??? :o
thats what i told them and hung up the phone. by the way that was min coverage.
so when i got thte full coverage with them i told the sale guy that, he said that was impossable.
i said it wasn't and had the print out to prove it. (i dont but i cant make shaZam! like that up)
i had geico min cov 480 a year, full with what i have now is 1300.
i now have, progressive
500 deuct on all
1 millon in med (the highest part of the coverage)
the rest is basic coverage as the gs isn't going to destory a lot when it wrecks.
all that for about 311 a year. two things on the record, and a extremmly high credit rating
Progressive is good for minimum liability. Very reasonable rates. I never had to use my policy so I can't comment on service. Keep in mind though that you are most likely talking about minimum liability rates.
If you have a car/truck policy with State Farm they will insure your bike cheap with FULL coverage and MASSIVE liability limits. I'm 31, married, good credit and driving record. My policy for a 2004 SV650S is $300/year with full coverage on the bike and 100K/300K/100K liability coverages, nearly ten times the state minimum.

My State Farm rep started by telling me I shouldn't be riding a motorcycle, it's too dangerous. I had to basically demand that she give me a quote. The quote was over $500 per year for full coverage w/ $1000 deducts. I have two cars and the house with them and Progessive still was a bunch cheaper. Progressive got my business... :dunno_white:

Well isn't that interesting? Maybe mine was so cheap because I live in BFE? I never even considered Progressive for the SV because I know I wanted full coverage with an agent I can go see face to face if I have a problem. I guess I just got lucky.
State Farm here insurance on the GS is little less about $350 - $380 a year
on the Gsxr 600 I'm paying $490 a year both are full coverage with 250 deductable.
For the 750 it's going to be $580 ish thats the quote I got.
