If you're selling something on ebay & post it up here- more power to ya.
If you're buying or just browsing ebay for GS related stuff; I just ask that you consider there may already be forum members who are bidding on said item(s) & are trying to "quietly" win the auction. There is no need to bring an auction for an item to everyones' attentions & start a bid war. If someone needs something they'll find the auction themselves. There is no greater pain in the ass than having the price of an item jacked up another $50 in the last minute of the auction.
If YOU were bidding on the item, would you then let everybody know about the auction.?
I dont mean to start any debate; I just think It's really rude to spam an auction if you are not intending to place a bid yourself... :dunno_white:
There is a sticky in the For Sale forum which is a compilation of GSers and their corresponding ebay usernames. The point is so that we wont be bidding aginst each other. It has some good points but uses the "honor system". If you're bidding & post here asking people not to bid on the auction, I like to think that people will respect that.
my point is:
If you're bidding on an auction and post up asking other members NOT to bid on it; great. But keep in mind people wont care about our "honor system". :cookoo:
If you're just BROWSING & think it's nice & polite to post up auctions for everybody, please do everybody a favor and keep it to yourself! You're only hurting the people who are already bidding.
What about that wheel that ended with zero bids while an was looking for a wheel? :dunno_white:
i think the policy of not bidding on an auction a fellow gs'er is watching, or bidding is is fuc#&d. now if you say i will pay 50 for a gs seat, an request that noone bid against, thats acceptable. cuz if im willing to spend 60, then you shouldn't win it. it came up a month or 2 ago where a guy called dibs on a new set of true sv mirrors. well they guy only bid 10 an got outbid, there was no way he was gonna get em for 10, even with all us gs'ers not bidding. it kinda pissed me off cuz i was looking for a set, an was willing to spend 40, but i let that set go on they end up sellin for 10.50. the next set i bought i spent 40 an they werent true sv mirrors

Yeah... At the time, I had already ordered a brand new rim from Suzuki ($450), but luckily, they didn't have it in stock. RVertigo posted the link again, and I was the winning bidder (I'm still waiting for the rim... hopefully tomorrow).
IMO, if you find something on Ebay but you don't plan on bidding, definitely post it up... Other members might be looking.
your auction that was linked to had expired with 0 bids. I was talking about linking to, and flooding auctions that are already being bidded on; possibly by fellow GS members. Please use the PM function if you know someone here is looking for something and you have found the item but it already has some bids on it.
Be discreet about it otherwise the price gets jacked up. That's how ebay works
I'm not making any rules here; I'm just asking nicely.
otherwise,
My ebay name is l3luemang0. Post a link here to an auction I am bidding on & you'll find me standing naked on your front lawn the next morning. I guarintee you wont want to do it again :kiss3:
I'd do it just to be able to take pics to post! :flipoff:
I have a different take on folks posting what they find on eBay actions, Craig's List, etc. We're all trying to help each other out. I don't think posting up an auction is rude or counter-productive; I think it's helping out fellow GS'rs. If someone posts up an auction, there's nothing wrong with posting up to say you've bid on something! :thumb:
The classic example of how this is silly:
http://gstwins.com/gsboard/index.php?topic=26769.0
Straymonolith posted up an auction and said he desperately needed the tank and please nobody bid on it. So being good forum members, everyone ignored the auction. Then as the auction got closer to closing, Alphafire noticed that the guy had been outbid, because his maximum was $1!! (it sold for $242.50) Also never forget, there are owners of GS500's who have no knowledge or need for this forum. They will bid as high as they think a part is worth.

To be fair, he was planning on bidding at the last minute, just bid the $1 to have his name up there. He withdrew his "dibs" after it got too rich for him (when it went past $80 I believe).

Well, I don't mean to offend Stray, a really nice guy, so I was just giving a specific example. But, if you look at that list of bidders and check the gstwin ebay member lists, I would be surprised to find too many matches.

When I see things that other people might be into, I post them 'cause I don't remember to check e-bay every day... Whenever I see a post about ebay, I run and check.
But... I have no clue why people post an auction THEY are bidding on. "Dibs" doesn't mean a damn thing to a web site. "Dibs" only works if it's in a post... And even THEN it only works if the person selling it is cool with the price. You can't say dibs and offer $1. :icon_rolleyes:
it just really suprises me to see so many people egear to lose money on their ebay purchases.
:dunno_white:
whatever...
WHATEVER!

if your that worried about it, then quit shopping on ebay, cuz there are a shaZam! load of people that won't see your post on here callin dibs anyyways

worried?
I'm not worried about anything... :icon_rolleyes:
When I find something I want on ebay I try to get it for the lowest price possible. you see- I like saving my money! :thumb:
Some people like to place bids on ebay and then openly invite more people to their auction and start a bid war.
I just cant seem to find any logic in doing that... :dunno_white:
I read the thread too, see the price go up and up and up, and LAUGH!
The person who initially posted up the auction is now losing because he/she has a big mouth and small(er) pockets, OR they're paying way too much. way to go! :thumb:
when you bid like that on ebay somebody ends up paying way too much & it usually is the person who has more money to burn rather than you or me... where's the fun in that?
And the seller, who is raping you on shipping already, is laughing all the way to the bank
I initially started this thread to try to get people to think about what they're doing before they link to an ebay auction for everyone to see. If you know that someone is looking for something that you've found on ebay, what's wrong with sending them a PM with the link??
If you're really doing somebody a favor you'd take into consideration that the more people who see the auction; the higher the price gets jacked. :nono: sort of a half-assed favor...
I know ebay is an open marketplace & there really aren't any rules to abide by. I'm not trying to set any rules.
I WILL however stand by what I said before: It's rude to place an open link to an ebay auction in which the bidding has already begun, and walk away...
There ARE exceptions however; like annguyen's wheel which ended w/ zero bids- that should be obvious. It's also obvious if someone say's "DIBS!" and only sets $1 or something rediculously low, that they're full of it!
The people who really WANT the item and searched for it themselves are already there & trying to get it for the cheapest price possible.
Now you've gone & placed the link & people who arent "that" serious are bidding just for the hell of it. Price goes up for no reason
 I will say again as well:

I sometimes think that people are just too stubborn to listen to any reason.
maybe I'm the on who's stubborn... :dunno_white:
stubborn about saving money! :thumb:
ask yourself this question: If money is real tight and you NEED a part for your bike ASAP that you've found on ebay, would you really start running your mouth & invite any yahoo to the auction to place their own bid???????????
I sure as hell hope not!
