Title: colored fuel lines
Post by: grasshopper4040 on August 03, 2006, 01:21:49 PM
i'm thinking of replacing some of my black fuel lines with colored ones (maybe blue and clear).  not sure which ones yet, but just a thought.  then i could just color code everything and not have to learn what lines connect to what ;) (just a joke) what do you all think...too cheesy?

I'm about the last person to judge what anyone does to their bike, here's my thought on color fuel hoses.

People have already done color steel braided brake lines so I don't see why color fuel hose is a no no.  But I would definatly check to make sure that the sizes are correct and that the hoses are safe.

If it's safe to use and you like it then do it.  It's your bike what other people think doesn't really matter what matters is that you like your bike.

of course its cheesy.   but it might look good. Cheesiness is in the eye of the bigot.  (hey I just made that up ;) )

post pics.  I might go that route.

how about using colored plastic tubes over the existing fuel lines....considering I have never heard of or seen colored fuel grade lines before.

as far as size...in searching here, i've seen that 5/16 would work best.  is that about right?  and i was looking for a jacket online and ran across this site that sells the colored fuel lines:
http://www.brocktoncycle.com/eshopprod_cat_1675-5990-6339_product_156170.HELIX_RACING_COLORED_FUEL_LIN.htm
they've also got some good closout deals on jackets!

I would go with green, it signifies lead-free, least it does here.

if i'm not tooo stupid,
i do believe that the fuel line is metric....7mm i think
5/16 is about 8mm

about the color....i don't care, your bike   why not just get the colored stuff they cover wires with....and make your bike look like a civic

It's hard to find 7mm line.  5/16 is the best commonly available fit.

We just had this topic come up on gs-500.de. It's 8 / 11 mm. (ID / OD)

Stock ID is 7mm. Good luck finding any other than a dealer and then it will be the stock rubber stuff. I use 5/16 without any problems. I bought a 10' role in blue off of ebay from "fuellineguy"

1/4 or 5/16th

I dunno what I got actually... just went to a local bike shop and picked some up fuel safe clear stuff (it'll probably brown after a while). I think it is 1/4 its a nice tight fit and really no need for clamps but I put on the stocker clamps anyway.

I replace mine with some clear blue line. It makes the bike go faster.

I used blue polyurithane fuel line. It was cheap and I need new hoses anyway, so I used it.
