Well, admitting that you're too lazy to search and that you want other members to spend their time answering your question because you're too lazy to look up the answer isn't the best way to get your question answered. That's like saying "I'm too important to do this menial shaZam!, you do it for me."

But, anyway, as a 20 second search would have told you: No. There is no governor. The only governor on any of the GS models is valve float. Which cannot be removed. Nor is it particularly good for your engine. My advice? Stay on the black side of the tach. Seriously, there's no need to ever go into the red. Power production peaks at roughly 9.2-9.5K so why even go beyond it? The bike tops out at roughly 115 indicated (roughly 103.5 actual) unless you've got a strong tailwind and a steep grade, then I bet you could hit roughly 120 indicated. If you need to go faster than that, get a gixxer6 or an r6 or something else flashy, and go fast in a straight line.

Or a much simpler, and easier answer...not to mention much more welcoming and socially acceptable... is no, there is no governor.

Just wait till you post again, NGFL. You ass head

WTF. I'm an asshead for pointing out common etiquette?

I'm sorry, but that post just came off as rude to me. "I'm too lazy to spend 30 seconds of my time. So someone else spend 30 seconds of their time doing the search for me, then another 30 seconds to post the reply for me. My time is OBVIOUSLY more important than your time."

If he hadn't made the comment about being too lazy to search, I'd have been happier. If you're lazy, don't be proud of the fact. Sheesh.

As for being welcoming:

Welcome. Don't be an asshead, like I evidently am. Better?

I'm not gonna lie, you're being more than as asshead! More like a dickhole, or a cockbreather.  Why is it so rude to say you're too lazy to search? If he thinks one of us knows the answer to his question, it's not exactly the eighth deadly sin for him to ask! Why don't you go get a really crotch-rocket if you wanna be such a punkass and get off the sites for people who just love to ride! I'm sorry, but I just can't stand it when people get so arrogant when they have to answer questions on a FREAKIN' FORUM! The GS500 is considered a starter bike, so alot of people who ask questions on here have never worked on or done anything to a bike before and to answer their questions with sarcasm and criticism is just unnecessary! You wanna act like a cocky teenager, you'll get treated as such! Fin!

I'm not gonna lie, you're being more than as sweetheart! More like a wonderbread, or a firebreathing cool guy.  Why is it so cool to say you're too lazy to search? If he thinks one of us knows the answer to his question, it's not exactly the eighth really-fun sin for him to ask! Why don't you go get a really crotch-rocket if you wanna be such a happy-go-lucky-fella and say nice things  on the sites for people who just love to ride! I'm a little tea-pot, but I just can't stand (because I'm really a tea pot!) it when people get so suger-lipped when they have to answer questions on a FREAKIN' FORUM! The GS500 is considered a man's man's bike, so alot of people who ask questions on here have never worked on or done anything to a bike (besides drooling) before and to answer their questions with sweetness and happiness is just so cool! You wanna act like a happy  puppy, you'll get treated as such! Fetch!
