Title: Is it normal for my seat to have some play?
Post by: BadBatzMaru on June 26, 2003, 05:00:52 PM
my seat kinda twists freely about 10 or 15 degrees side to side when I'm off the bike. When I'm on it, doesnt seem to really move at all. Is this normal for the GS? or do I need new seat or sumfin? maybe I'm just not remounting it properly?
thx

My '01 model has no play at all.  Make sure you are getting the tabs at the front of the seat in place properly.  Push it forward against the tank, then push the rear down until the latch clicks.

yeah the tabs seem to seat properly... then i push till it clicks but it still slides... doesnt want to come off or anything, just twists... maybe I think the tabs are in right, but they're not... I'll double check soon as i can. thanks.

Maybe they are stretched out or something?

did you check to see that the latch mechanism, either on the underside of the seat or the part on the bike frame itself isn't loose?

My '92 seems like its needs to be latched down on two sides.  If I hook it into the tank, then press down above the latch towards the back, I hear a click.  Then if I press around the latch first on one side, then the other, then I get a seconds click.  Without the second click, one side seems a little loose.

I get the two clicks, too. I press on one forwrd corner of the pillion area and then the other corner routinely.

Are all the pads where they are supposed to be?  That is under the seat!
Maybe one of the pads or bumpers went south or something.

somethin must be wrong... but I havent had a chance to check the bike yet.. I will tonight when I get home.. but didnt get home till midnight last night and just crashed out... anyway I only hear one click.. its a '91. so maybe I should hear two...  and the pads seemed OK to me, at least they didnt walk away or anything... but maybe a closer inspection might reveal something funny... So I'll check it out (tabs, latch and pads) and let you guys know as soon as I can figure anything out. Thanks for the advice everyone! :thumb:

OK, I'm stumped.. I checked all the hardware and everything is secure. No tabs broken off or pads missing... and I am getting two clicks one on each side of the locking mechanism, but still my seat moves around a lot. anybody have any more suggestions?? thank you....

My seat moves around a little too.  I don't think its a big deal though.  I've got a 97 (not that that makes a difference) and I know I'm putting the seat on correctly.  I wouldn't trip on it if I were you.
