OK have you noticed - any damn chopper or harley usually has a front cylinder that has huge air in front of and above it. Pull the valve cover off, easy, pull the head off - easy, pull the cylinder off, easy. Great wide open space, then you look at the damn rear cylinder and its crammed in the crotch of the seat, right under the riders ass, and the frame is sitting right on, and behind it, and the front cylinder is blocking all its air. you cant even look at the valve cover. So why do they want to kill that back cylinder. Yea like some people believe that one body part is causing them to suffer. They want to lose that body part. Whatever that is called.

A harley guy around here told me that there is control on the fuel injection to manage fuel differently for the 2 cylinders to control the temperature in the back.
As for the old carbed ones, well....
Actually, the front wheel blocks all the wind to the front cylinder and the rider's legs duct all the air to the rear cylinder.
And, on the '82 Yamaha 550 Vision, the liquid-cooled sport v-twin, with individual carbs; the rear carburetor had richer jetting and a higher vacuum specification to aid in keeping the rear cylinder cooler.
What about any v-twin or L-twin sport bike? The rear cylinder on my Super Hawk aims right up at my chicken and balls. That goes for the SV, both the 650 and 1000, the V-strom and any Ducati, the RC51, RC211V, VFR 800 and the new Desmo super duper bike that Duc is charging $65K for.

srinath, on most hd's you can remove both cyls/heads while in frame, not all of them though. :thumb:

Fuel injection for the rear will run it leaner. Hotter running temp = leaner else it will pop and misfire. The water cooled series osn't affected as much, they all shed heat via the radiator and the front doesn't catch much air either.
The front wheel on a HD touring rig may obstruct air but on a chopper it will be no where near. Riders legs pushing air in I sorta doubt that cos they dont have bend at the knee seating position, they are straight knee.
And I almost forgot, when and where is this relevant, the bikes are never ridden anyway ... :laugh: ... so it never overheats.
I know this Indian couple (the girl has lived in the US for a looooong time or was born here, and her husband is relatively new) and he wanted a big bike, and for a wedding present she bought him a concourse - right a freaking motor home on 2 wheels. She was wondering why he only rode it 300 miles in 2 years, and he said to me in private he wanted a GS500 or virago 535 to get practice but he's afraid his wife will feel slighted. Yea freaking newly weds ...
Yea you plonk down 35K or 50K or 80K or 150K on a damn bike which has a 16 foot wheel base and you try riding it down the street and go ... damn this thing needs power steering ... yeaI dont think overheating is your biggest problem.

SS, I don't know what it is like in your part of the country.
Around here if you want a low mileage used bike, it will probably be a Harley.
Half of the listed used bikes are Harleys, most with under a few thousand miles, quite often less than 1k.
My GS Supper Bike has 8k on it in 6 mo.

Is he here in the Bay Area? We got this one guy at one of the Doc Wong rides and this guy is just scary to ride with. All of his aquaintances (also on Concours'/Concours club) were scared [of him], too, when I asked.
No - they are here - unless they moved since January. This guy isn;t scary to ride with, cos he's never ridden it. I think he's already feeling intimidated, and she doesn't get it. Her thinking is, the car is like 3 liters, so what the hell is 1000, or I ride a 1100 so he should be able to ride a 1000, and I told her that my eliminator 1000 will blow the doors off my 1100 virago. She looked at me like I opened my mouth and rats ran out.
Its like when a guy says he wants a big girl, he's thinking Pamela Anderson while a girl thinks he's thinking Queen Latifah. Big doesn't mean big everywhere, just what should be ... :laugh: ... now that everyone's been offended. G'night every one. My work is done.
