Well, it happened tonight on the way home from work :(
Basically, I was riding on a two lane road (me on the inside lane) and a guy pulled out from the side street to my left (think in reverse for those who drive on the wrong side of the road :)) When he saw me, he stopped, effectively blocking both of my lanes, and I T-boned him. Minimal damage to me, but Suzie on the other hand is a little worse for wear :mad:

I didn't manage to get a photo of the fuel tank that my nuts dented in. Must have been those balls of steel us Aussie have :flipoff:

Glad to see that you are almost uninjured. It seems like it was the other persons fault so their insurance should fix you bike, knock on wood (also don't know how insurance works in Austrailia). If you can take the money and repair the bike yourself you might have a little left over for more gear/mods/spending cash. In any case get the GS fixed and ride safe :thumb:

Hmm. The guy's insurance should pay for it, right?
Get an estimate from a dealer for parts + labor. Have the insurance company pay you for that amount. Use that check to buy parts on your own. Buy a naked model's headlight and some mirrors and replace those ugly fairings. Use the extra cash for mods or just as extra savings.
Your bike's front end looks like the guy with no jaw bone. You know, the picture floating around of the guy with like half a face. They say he either a) crashed while wearing an open faced helmet, b) ate a grenade, or c) failed suicide attempt.
I would say don't do any work to the bike. Wait until the insurance company checks it and quotes the cost of repairs. It could be a write off.
yep they'll write it off, the fairings will be to expensive to replace, get the money from them, buy the bike back once they write it off, then remove the fairings ect and turn it intio a naked bike,
the forks will be bent so it'll be a good excuse to up grade to rgv or bandit twin disc front end, and you'll probly have a couple of thousand left over to spend on beer and cheap women :icon_mrgreen: lol kidding

Too true... that was one of my first thoughts after I got up, just after F$#&@#^@%$!
When the tow truck came around last night, I had a good look at the front end to see what was bent, but although I couldn't notice any bend lengthwise of the forks, the tyre has moved back about 2" as it was rubbing against the chin fairing.
Everyone who saw it happen said that I did everything right and it was completely the other guys fault for not giving way like he should have. It's funny how you handle emergencies... I'd often wondered whether I would react fast enough or whatever, but when it was happening, yeah, the slo-mo thing kicked in. I only heard the front tyre chirp for a fraction of a second, so I managed to not lock it up. The witnesses were expecting me to do a stoppie!
Well, at least I got to see the spedo click over 10k km... yesterday! Sometimes ya just gotta laugh

Hey mate, sorry to hear about that, but the fact that you are still alive and kicking is the main part. I also live in the city of the worst drivers in Australia and have had a very similar incident but was lucky enough to avoid disaster. Hope you get your bike fixed up without hassle and get back out there again soon.
Good to see your OK, I know what its like to have them stop and freeze with horror stare right at you then say sorry didn't see you while I was stareing right at you. Did you have a fly through the air? I was on the back of a mates bike when we hit a car and that sent me flying for about 20-25 feet and before I landed I thought oh unaided flight this is cool OH OH got to land now thud hit ground roll roll roll stop OUCH.
Anyway shows everyone how important riding gear is as you got away with a small scratch just a pity you actually had to show everyone how important riding gear is.

Well, the fact that I'm still on my P-plates means that I am restricted to what bikes I can get. I've got nothing against the GS, though after reading the other threads, I think I would wait until the 07 model, and hope they got their problems sorted out. Other than that, I did look at the GT650R and Duc 620Lite. Now, they got me thinking a bit.... hmmm, decisions, decisions.
The few injuries that I did get, I don't think the gear really did anything. I didn't go for a fly, basically I hit the car, and sort-of just layed the bike down. Not that I had that option, but I remember having both hands on the bar and easing it down. There wasn't any sliding or anything. The two sores that I have are more like carpet burn from my pants, rather than road rash
Oh, and if anyone was thinking I could just get any cheap restricted bike to ride until Feb when I go unrestriced.... Nope, I don't think I could be happy for too long on a 250 now that I've had the 500. Man, it's going to suck to have to pay for car parking now, as well as the extra fuel that I'll be using.
I didn't see this, but what type of gear were you wearing? Brand? Model? How did it hold up? Are you sore anywhere?
My jacket was a Dririder Nordic4, so that had the full armour in it. No special pants, just normal chino's that I wore to work. Really, if I were wearing a singlet and shorts, I would have had the same little amount of injury. I didn't slide at all or really hit anything with my body. Literally, I went into the side of the car, the bike stopped dead, and it gently went down onto it's side. The bike's a mess, but I got off almost scott free, apart from a sore right knee (I think it hit the back of the fairing at impact).
Just for an update, if anyone was interested, I found out today that the insurance company has declared the bike a total loss. I'm not sure if they will just pay out, or replace the bike with a new one. Either option is listed in their policy. The only downside is the wait for a new one to become available... there is quite a shortage here in Aus, with the entire shipment due to arrive in a few weeks basically being all accounted for already :(
Just hope they will come to the party and remove the extra gear I had on the bike (that wasn't included in the policy)... without telling me, they had already trucked it 4 hours away from me, so I can't really go down and get the bits myself
